"JAKE! Where are my glasses for heaven's sake?"
"In the bin..."
"Jake! What the he-"
"Ash just come downstairs before you pop my eardrum." Jay's voice cut in.
I huffed and walked down the stairs. It wasn't like I needed glasses or anything. I just felt more comfortable with them on. It made my face feel protected and hidden. I got to the bottom to see my brother and Jay in the kitchen. I walked in and looked at Jake expectantly.
"Yes?"
"Anything you wanna say?"
"Sorry?"
"Care to elaborate?"
"I –um might've, sorta, absolutely unintentionally, accidently chucked them away?"
I raised my eyebrow.
"Fine. Who am I kidding? I threw them out. -"
"What?! Why d'ya chuck them out?"
"Ashy-bear, you can see clearly without them. I don't think you need them. Especially with your beautiful eyes, which of course make you look so gorgeous. I mean, good genes run in the family."
I stared at him in annoyance but he could tell that I was fighting the urge to smile. I settled for slapping the back of his head. Cocky egotistical jerk.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"Chucking away my protection!" I crossed my arms across my chest.
Jay chuckled. "Come on. We're getting late."
"But what about my glasses?"
"You mean your protection? You have a spare pair in my car. You can use them for today."
"Whatever." And with that I left the house after grabbing my bag. My phone and headphones never left my possession. Unless of course I was kicking some ass.
I got into the car with Jay and got the spare pair from the compartment drawer. We drove off to Riley's house to pick her up before getting to Olli's apartment to pick him up. We didn't want to be late for our first day back after summer holidays. All throughout the ride the guys talked about how they were looking forward to hit the ring later that evening. I looked at Olli through the window mirror and saw him tapping away at his phone, most likely texting his girlfriend about tonight's event. I liked his girlfriend. If we hung out more then we could easily be friends.
After Jay had parked, Riley and I left the boys to fend for themselves amongst the girls. They may be the most popular boys in the school and they most certainly lived up to the fact that they were players. However, them being our best friends also made us popular, meaning that attention was always on us. Not a good thing if you ask me.
Once we got past the main doors, Riley turned to me with a large grin on her face. Making her look like Smiley.
"Guess what?" I didn't reply as she would blurt it anyways in a second.
"BLAKE'S COMING HOME! AHHHHHHHHH!!!" She squealed in my poor ears. Now, if you were to just walk by you would think that this 'Blake' was her boyfriend. No. He was Riley's twin brother who had been my personal bully. He had left when we were 12 to go live in London with his Gram who he was close to. I could still remember the pranks he played, usually ending with a trip to the A & E on my half and him getting stitches from laughing too hard.
With him coming back, senior year and my secret were in danger.
