25 December 2012Ellie didn't know what to do.
She was wearing a bright red skirt and a black t-shirt that was covered by a green jumper. Her blonde hair was braided and partly covered by a Santa hat.
She felt ridiculous.
The house in front of her was exploding with loud Christmas music and the windows burst with colours.
But instead of going inside, Ellie was standing in front of the door with her hands balled into fists, still deciding wether to knock and enter or just leave.
She begged Mother for years to let her come and now that she's here she just felt like a silly little girl. And the clothes she chose to wear weren't helping.
She looked down at her red Converses that were pressed against Maggie's present. The gift gave her a little confidence.
She got this far and she didn't want to waste the opportunity.
So Ellie bit her lip and knocked on the door.
One second. Two seconds. Three. Four.
No one answered.
Probably because of the loud music, Ellie concluded.
Not unexpectedly, she felt relieved as she finally had a reason to abort the mission.
She crouched, grabbed the gift and turned on her heel, ready to head home.
"First time at a party?" a deep voice asked from behind her.
She truly wished to leave but being rude was not an option for Ellie, so she turned and opened her mouth to respond.
Then closed it and nodded weakly.
In front of her was a boy her age, leaning on the door frame with a ciggarate between his fingers. His lips were curved in a smile and his black hair gleamed because of the light that erupted from the open door.
He was handsome. The kind of handsome that made goosebumps appear on Ellie's skin.
"You don't have to knock, you just go inside." said the boy.
Ellie nodded again and hurried inside, brushing past him while muttering a shy 'Thanks.'
She tried to ignore the fact that her insides were melting.
25 December 2013
Ellie was on the sofa in Maggie's living room. She was sipping carefully from her punch and her eyes were searching the crowd for Anna, who promised she won't bail Ellie this time.
But of course, Anna was nowhere to be seen.
Ellie sighed softly and crossed her legs when Mystery Guy came to sit beside her.
He smiled at her and she felt her stomach fill with the familliar butterflies.
"Hey." he said with his pretty blue eyes twinkling.
Ellie didn't trust her words, so she just smiled and took another gulp from her punch.
"I'm Levi."
"I'm A-Ellie." she felt the tips of her ears turn bright red, like the Santa hat she's wearing.
Thankfully, he only chuckled.
Anna suddenly appeared with a red cup in her hands and with her hair resembling a nest. Her lipstick was smudged and she had a goofy smile on her face.
She winked at Levi and Levi winked right back at her.
Ellie felt her heart ache with jealousy, even with her make-up smudged and messy hair, Anna still managed to look beautiful.
