Pronounce the Letters

Hello my fellow readers! This a guide to JAPANESE! I hope this helps to those who wish to use it.

First of, the vowel sounds, a, e, i, o, and u, are pronounced differently then the English ways.

A -as in 'father'. An 'ah' sound. Never as in 'apple' or 'cape'.

E - as in 'pen'. An 'eh' sound. Never as in 'peek'.

I - as in 'keep'. A long 'e' sound. Never as in 'pit'.

O - as in 'hope'. An 'oh' sound. Never as in 'on'.

U -as in 'soup'. An 'ooh~' sound. Never as in 'jump'.

The other letters stay the same, unlike in English, they CAN change depending on what letters you put beside them. They can go longer if it has the same letter next to it.

If two letters that are the same are next to each other,(aa) it will a longer sound them just having 'a'.

B - as in 'bad'*

CH - as in 'chocolate'

D - as in 'dog' This sound is a bit heavier than in English. The tongue pushes against the upper teeth and gums. It's similar to the Spanish d.

F - as in ' fat' However, the Japanese don't bite their bottom lip as we do when we say this sound. Let your upper teeth just barely touch your lower lip as you close your mouth naturally.

G - as in 'gate' Never a "soft g" as in "George."

H - as in 'hot'

J - as in 'jam'

K - as in 'kangaroo'

L - as in 'lent'*

M - as in 'moon'

N - as in 'nice'

P - as in 'potent'

Q - as far as I know, it's not in the Japanese language

R - as in 'ladder'

S - as in 'snake'

SH - as in 'shake'

T - as in 'tin'

TSU - as in 'eat soup'

V - as far as I know, it's not in the Japanese language

W - only 'wa'

WA - as in 'want'

Y - as in 'you' This letter always functions as a consonant, never as a vowel.

X - as far as I know, it's not in the Japanese language

Z - as in 'zoo'

That is all the letters of how to pronounce, but there is SO much to learn.
