We meet many people in our life, every single day. We might also get the opportunity to meet famous people like celebrities. Or successful people. Then arises the question: who are the successful ones? And what are they successful in? Being rich? Famous? Social workers? I say, none of these. A successful person is one who just understands "life as it is".
I happened to visit the hospital, when I saw a baby, a newborn baby. It was crying. Like all babies do. Someone once told me that a baby cries to just kick-start its lungs. It then occurred to me how newborn-baby-ish it is to cry when you are not a newborn baby. But it is human tendency to cry over everything; joy or grief. Our lung doesn't need a kick-start every time we are overjoyed or depressed. I realized it is probably our heart that needs one. Our heart, very delicate, well protected by the creation of the lord by the rib cage, vertebral column and sternum, is in fact not protected from feelings. It is well exposed to all the feelings of the universe; be it joy, sorrow, anger, zeal, fear, envy, it goes on. It has no protection against any of these. Of course, these feelings are the reason we humans are unique. They are the ones responsible to make our life worth living.
One simply cannot live a monotonous life. A life without feelings. A life of a mere machine, a robot. What is life without a laugh, some tears, a beautiful smile, a little jealousy, wonderful love or the anger we often show on people we care about? When we are happy, we express it by smiling, laughing, hugging our loved ones or kissing them. What we don't realize is that we do not remain merry forever; say for a few minutes? Few hours? A day? That is it! Then? Phew! Everything goes back to normal. We do not think or feel the same happiness again.
Why can't this happen when we are downhearted? Some miserable things are just unforgettable. Their impact can affect our life till our last breath. When our mind (or the heart) is capable of forgetting happy things, why not the sad ones? Maybe, one can live one's life even after a heartbreak, but is it worth it? A life of melancholiness and nightmares?
The thing is, we all know that everything in this world is temporary. Happiness and sorrow are temporary too. And everyone knows it. But, even when the mournful days are long gone, we remain the same. Even when happiness returns in our life once again, we just can't embrace it and leave everything else behind. Human tendency is to carry the heavy burden throughout life.
