The rain poured down as lightning struck a nearby tree and thunder clapped. Ayo, an oddly colored Phanpy calf, shivered in his dark, cool hiding spot under a fallen tree. He was scared and soaked to the bone. Shivering, he tried to lick his white fur dry, as well as his red toes and blue ear and nose strips. It didn't work. It was times like this that Ayo thought of that awful night, his mother, and what made his life turn upside down.

It was a beautiful, warm, starry summer night. Ayo was in his and his mother's secret base: a large hollow in the base of a willow tree. Ayo's mother, a kind-hearted, gentle-natured Donphan, called him for a delicious dinner of oran, pecha, and iapapa berry soup.

"So there you are," she grinned as her son came bounding up to their feast. "How's the fort coming along?"

"It's great, Momma!" the happy calf exclaimed. "I decided to put the hot tub in with a slide, right beside the swing!"

She mock-grimaced, making him laugh. They (mostly Ayo) were always thinking up crazy ideas for a vacation home. Since Ayo couldn't say "vacation" very well, though, they called it a fort.

They began their meal. When they had had their fill, it was dusk and the Volbeat were trying to impress the Illumise. There was a rumble in the distance that sounded like thunder, though the skies were clear.

"Ayo, get in the fort now and stay hidden," instructed the Donphan, afraid somehting bad was about to happen.

 "But Momma-"

"NOW!" she growled, getting more worried as another explosion of sound shook the air and a tree fell in the distance.

Ayo nodded and ran into the fort, making sure he was concealed but with a good view of what was happening.

As the monster came into view, Ayo's mother shouted out, "What business do you have here?"

The enraged Tyranitar's answer was a blood-curtling Screech, followed by a Hyper Beam attack on a nearby tree. It fell with a loud BANG!

"This is no place to have a hissy fit!" she yelled, "There are children here!" Her trying to get rid of this beast came to no avail -- it couldn't hear her in its blind rage. Instead of a response, the Tyranitar let loose another Hyper Beam nearer the Donphan. She flinched, but stood her ground. "Leave! Begone!" she tried again.

This time, its red eyes caught her blue ones.

'Oh crap,' she thought, 'this won't be pretty.... At least Ayo won't have to see this.' The red eyes' anger intinsified, making her flinch again.

The Tyranitar reared its head back, ready to unleash another powerful attack, this time aimed at the frightened mother. Seeing this, she got ready and prepared her own attack.

Ayo had witnessed the confrontation the two were having from his hiding spot, worrying for his beloved mother. He now witnessed as they both, mother and monster alike, prepared their attacks on one another. He had never seen his mother battle before, and was afraid for her, going up against this gigantic beast and all.

All of a sudden, the two released the Hyper Beam attacks at each other simultaniously, creating a blinding light and a shaking explosion. The force from the blast sent Ayo back, making him hit his back on a large knot in the base of the tree. With an "oomph!" he passed out.

When the little Phanpy woke up, he was surrounded by debris. Disoriented, he looked around uneasily. Where was his mother?

Suddenly, the events of the previous night came flooding back to him. Scared once again for his mom, he dashed out of the remains of the fallen willow tree, which had been blown down by the detonation of the Hyper Beams' joining. Looking around, all he saw was debris of his home.

"Mommy?" he cried out, truly terrorized now. He began to frantically search for the missing Donphan, to no avail. He eventually came to two equally distressing conclusions: either his mother and the Tyranitar had died and disintegrated in the blast, or they had taken the fight elsewhere to finish. Either way, neither neither friend nor foe were anywhere to be seen.

'Maybe I can find her...' Ayo thought as he headed out toward and past the oran berry bushes, toward the forest.

Thinking back on the horrid night, and the dreadful morning following, made him bitter as the rain continued to pour down on his hiding spot. Shivering, he decided to try to get some sleep and see if he would find them in the morning. Bitter though he was, he still had hope that he would find his mother or kill the beast that did her in.
