Chapter One
'Left. Right. Left. Right. Don't stop. Keep running. Don't Stop.'
A teenage girl ran through the forest. The branches whipped against her blood-stained face. More blood poured out of her cheek as it got ripped open. She did not have time to feel the pain. She could not stop.
'Keep running. Don't stop.'
She needed to find the door. The door to home. The door to safety. The door that got her into this mess. The door that changed her life.
'Chase...' She shook her head at that thought. 'Can't think of him. Gotta keep running.'
Bang!
The sound of the gun rang through her ears.
Clip clop. Clip clop.
Horses.
They had horses.
She could not stop. They would catch up too quickly.
Bang!
Another gun shot.
A salty smell filled her nose. A single drop of sweat fell down her face. Small twigs snapped under her tired feet. Autumn leaves crunched as she ran.
Closer. She was getting closer.
Closer. They were getting closer.
Then she spotted it. The door. The door that changed her life. She forced herself to sprint. Her legs ached. She didn't care. She had to get out of this place. She needed to go home.
The girl slowed down before running into the door. The sound of hoofs got louder. Louder. Closer. She reached into her pocket, grabbing the silver key. She put it in the lock.
Bang!
Silence.
