The Lips of a Killer/shheli/1
Chapter One
The End of Summer"Have a good night!" I chirped to the two final customers of the night. The bell above the glass door jingled as they left the shop, and let the door slam behind them. It was the last week of summer vacation before my grade eleven year of high school. Most people were excited to go back because everyone says that grade eleven is one of the most important years in school. Well, I am everything but excited.
The sound of cars speeding through rain puddles in the road, and the wind dancing through the treetops filled the air, making me shiver slightly. A cool draft blew in from under the door, nipping at my bare legs. I guess it wasn't the best day to be wearing shorts. Snagging my black pea-coat off of the counter, I hung it over my arm and dug threw the pockets for my keys. I flicked the light switch off as I approached the door, pushing it open. Stepping into the dark outdoors, chills ran down my spine. It had been one of the coolest nights of the summer. Pushing my arms through the sleeves of my coat, I set off back home.
Spending my whole summer working the night shift at a small convenience-store hadn't been the most ideal thing to be doing, but it paid well, and I needed the money. The only downside to the job was the late night walk home. My town had never been the safest, so while walking at nighttime, it was important to be as quick as possible. As I took off down the lonely sidewalk, I noticed that it seemed louder than usual. There were more sirens and police Hi cars roaming the streets, and the alleyways were empty for a change. The rain began to come down faster and harder than it had before, completely drenching me.
Something just wasn't right.
