Ian's P.O.V

That day, two years ago, started out like any other. Little did I know that things were going to change, and my life would be full of adventure. I live on the outskirts of a town called, Bevonhail. The town not at all famous, is extremely small. Ever since the new, and bigger town served as the resting place for weary travelers no one comes to this ghost town. But rather than the coming and goings of a busy town I prefer the quiet. The lack of people makes it peaceful and people know one another better than ever before.

I had never know my parents, apparently I was left in a house to die when Guwendan, a herbalist who had been traveling the kingdom, took me in. Really we look nothing alike, but Gaushten's herbs keep her youthful appearance. So much so that even I can't tell her true age. It is because of that people often mistake us as relatives despite the differences in appearance.

Still calling her Mom, though that is what she is to me, would aroused too many questions since herbalist were known to not have children. So I address as I would any woman.

Two years ago

The sound of knife against wood wakes me. I roll over shifting to a more comfortable position. Instantly I realized my mistake.

"Oh, I am glad you are awake. If you hadn't woken soon, I was going to wake you up myself. If you hurry it will still be cool when you go gathering herbs for the shelves." Gwenda's voice floated effortlessly across the room. I groaned and for a second considered going back to sleep, but decided against it. I sit up and swung my legs off the bed hitting them on the floor with a soft THUNK!  I survey the familiar room, With its white wash walls, herbs hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling was low but comfortable, while making a bold statement with it majestic oak beams, and the shelves stuffed to the brim with books about herbs and various other things. Clay pots and jars that lined spare inch of the room, filled with different herbs and medicines. I breather in the sharp tang of ground herbs. I stare at the stick figures on the wall, smiling as I remember drawing there as a child. For the past 15 years, this small cottage has been my home. I walked over to the table picking up a piece of bed and munching on it. "Good
morning to you too." I grumble under my breath.
Dawning my usual clothes, a tan shirt with a leather vest along with jeans,  and tightening my leather boots I grab a burlap sack before heading out the door. "I'm off!" I hollered around the bread hanging out of my mouth.
"You're still here get going already, you fool!" came and angry reply. A goofy, wide grin spread across my face at her harsh words. I knew that even though she sounded angry she would never truly hurt me.
"Yes ma'am." Closing the small wooden door firmly I break into a light jog, my spirits soaring at the feel of the morning breeze caressing my cheeks. "Sharis, here girl." A sharp whistle rang out high pitched and commanding, I wait in anticipation. Moments later a dog of Border Collie descent came bounding around the corner of the wood shack. "Ata girl. Let's go,Gwenda wants more herbs for the shop." I say patting the black dog on the head. I laugh as the dog barks in agreement and dashes off into the woods, tail smacking low plants, sending them spinning. I hurry after the excited Collie.

Yay! Chapter One done and published. Comment on what you think. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are confused. I love hearing from you guys and i will try and answer all your question. I might change Gwenda's name to something else. IF I do I will write an Author's note about it. I hope you will continue reading my story. Comment, vote and add to your library. :)
