Lou
'The carnival lights have always fascinated me.'
I sighed, why did I ever agree to go on this date? I want to be home, finishing To Kill a Mockingbird. Laying under my comfortable sheets and not thinking about the possibility that school is just around the corner as in, the first day is tomorrow.
'Yeah they are quite pretty.' I say back, my voice flat and failing any signs of interest. It's not that he wasn't a nice guy, he really was..it was just well, not for me.
'Lou, you look awfully beautiful tonight.'
I glanced down at my outfit, forgetting what I was wearing for a moment. My maroon jumper was loosely hanging off my body and my washed out jean shorts looked illuminating with the night sky surrounding us.
'Thanks Carl,' I say, giving him a forced smiled. I felt my heart break a little, he really was trying and I do give him credit for it.
He combed his red hair back a bit with his fingers and cleared his throat. 'Do you want to ride on the Farris wheel?'
My foot tapped the ground at the bench we were sitting at in the middle of the new school year kick off carnival. I could be a bitch and say no, but I know it took him a lot of guts to call over to my house and ask my to go with him tonight.
'Sure, but don't try anything.' I stood up and so did he, before tripping over the bench while following behind me. His body flailed forward slightly, but he caught himself giving me a small chuckle and then averting his eyes to somewhere else.
I walked toward the line for the farris wheel, my arms crossed against my chest. The night air was a little bit chilly since the sun went down, and I could feel Carl urging me to say something, but I kept my mouth shut. Silence came between us while we stood in the line, but he broke it before long.
'I-I wanted to thank you...you know for agreeing to hangout with me tonight.' Carl said before stuffing his hands into his pockets, rocking gently back and fourth on his feet.
'Yeah it's no problem, I wasn't going to do anything anyway but read.' I gave him a small smile and moved about 3 more steps until the line came to a halt again. We were both stood quietly, silence falling over us again for the thousandth time that night.
I glanced over to see him slightly tap his pockets when realization hit him. His face got beet red and he glanced over at me. 'Um, I- I uh don't have an tickets..." I nodded slightly before he held up his hands. "But- but I'll go get some! Don't worry!"
I let out a breath of air and awkwardly standing there as Carl took off in a slight jog to the ticket booth that was a little ways away. The line continued to move and I stepped out slightly the people behind me giving me a grateful nod.
'Now what's a pretty girl like you doing here all alone?'
Oh geeze.
I knew that voice from any where and I couldn't help my small smile that creeped up on my face. I chuckled slightly before turning, coming face to face with his brown eyes.
'Calum, I'm not hooking up with you.'
'Well that's a shot in my heart Luna! How could you ever say something like that to your best friend.' He held his hand to his chest and fell back slightly, his leather jacket slightly coming off his shoulder since it was a size too big.
