Chapter 1: Princess Lucinda
"Let's go, let’s go!"
I run laughing behind my best friend as she races towards the inner side of the island. why? I have no idea.
"Come on!"
"I'm sorry, but not all of us are Jaguars you know." I say, trying to grab hold of her tail.
"Well then, no one told you to have only two legs!" Ava runs faster forcing me to do so as well.
They always do this. My adoptive parents, the King and Queen of the Island have had all the animals train me, after all you can't be the child of a Lion and be weak.
Since I was found at the shore when I was five years old, I've been taught to live the life of a hunter, to say the least. My eyes have accustomed themselves to see in light and dark. I can almost run as fast as a jaguar. My parents are the only Lions in the small island of ours, they were vanished here because they refused to be like other, to eat other animals, they are vegetarians, as they put it, and there for, so am I and the rest of the animals.
"We're almost there Princess!" Ava calls out before disappearing into the trees. I'm right behind her, and before I know it, I'm at the clearing where ceremonies are held, only to see all the animals and my parents there with my brothers and sisters.
The clearance is decorated with water lilies, my favorite flowers, at the center of the clearance and an enormous fruit cake, which I'm sure was made by our amazing Red Panda, Vivica.
I walk towards my parents and siblings, ready to take my place next to them when I'm stop by my father voice.
"Fifteen years ago, on this date and time, a little girl appeared at our shore, scars on her arms and legs from a fire. The only memory she has is of that fire and her name being called over, and over again from a distance.
"She is one of a kind. And although she does not look like us, she speaks our language and acts like us in the best way she can," I knew he was talking about me, as he looks around, retelling the story that everyone knows by heart, "And that's why, on this date, we celebrate you," he looks at me, his golden brown eyes meeting my green ones, "Princess Lucinda."
I bow down, "thank you father."
"Invaders!" we all turn to look at the sky to see our watch bird come to down to rest in front of my father. "There's a ship, a big one, heading our way!"
