I found out all the answers to my questions the next day. As I was bent over trying to get my geometry book out of my locker, I felt someone walk up behind me. I assumed it was Mark.
"Hey Mark, ready for Geo?"
No answer.
"Mark?"
No answer again, so I stood up and turned around. As soon as I saw who it was I jumped and backed up into my locker.
"Hey I just saw you walk by so I thought I'd check to see if you were ok."
It was him, the guy I landed on!
"Oh um...ya, I'm fine just one bruise on my side haha.."
He smiled at me, I took this chance to ask for his name.
"I just wanted to ask, since you sorta saved me, I guess, uh, what's your name
"Oh! The names Roman. No need to ask you, you're Hailey right?
"Yup! That's me!"
I flashed him a wide grin. He returned the gesture, then asked.
"Would you like to, um, join me for lunch?"
"Sure!, I mean, that would be great." Insert awkward smile....
"Cool, meet me at the front entrance, we are pretty close to a Burger King, so we could totally make it."
"Sounds good, see ya then!"
He turned and walked away, leaving me stunned that he had asked to hang out. I had so many questions still, hopefully I'll find out more at lunch.
•••••••••••••It was 2nd block, biology. This was my absolute favorite class, except for the fact that the bitch Lisa sat across the aisle from me. uhg...
As I was trying to draw a diagram of an onion cell, I could hear her talking about the party that's at her boyfriends house this weekend. The only thing that is gonna happen there is getting drunk and having sex, not really my cup of tea. As I continued working I would swear that I could smell something that closely resembled rotten eggs. It didn't bother me though, our class was full of different students doing different projects, so it was probably just someone mixing chemicals. I got up since my pencil decided to break right then, and the only sharpener was at the front of the room. As I started up the aisle my foot suddenly caught on something and I fell, hitting my elbow on a table in the process.
"Shit..." I hissed under my breath.
Then to make it worse I felt something drop on my back and start leaking some sort of liquid. I slowly rose up to my knees and looked around. And the first thing I saw was a smug smile beaming off Lisa's face. Then it clicked, I knew exactly what had happened.
"You tripped me!!"
"No I didn't you loser, you just tripped over your own gorilla feet."
Her smile fell into a slight smirk.
"I didn't trip myself! YOU DID! And what did you spill on my back!?!"
Now I was pissed, and the teacher was just standing by helping another student, she didn't even realize what was happening! Lisa smiled wide, showing off her white teeth.
"Oh just a mix of peanut oil, vinegar, and baking soda."
"P.. Peanut Oil..?"
"Yup, whipped it up just for you!" She giggled, and widened her smile even more, if that was even possible.
My voice broke, "I need to go."
I could already feel my throat closing, I had an epipen in my locker, I could make it. I got up and full on sprinted down the room, the hallways felt longer than usual, the locker bay was in sight. I made it. What I failed to realize was I now couldn't breath, and I was winded from sprinting. My hands were shaking, my vision blurring. My lock wasn't opening.
"My head hurts so baaad.."
Then, I blacked out.
••••••••••••Next thing I know I'm sitting up in the nurses office, I didn't end up having to go to the hospital because along with having an epipen in my locker, I also supplied the school nurse with one.
"You should be ok sweetie, but I want you in here for the rest of the day ok?"
"Ya, I'm cool with that.." I replied with a croaky voice.
I lay back down on the uncomfortable bed that I was seated on, I had only woken back up ten minutes ago, so I still felt like shit. Just as I was closing my eyes, I heard someone walk towards my bed, the sound of the privacy shades being pushed aside made me open my eyes, it was Kayla!
"Hailey, oh my god are you ok?"
I smiled weakly at her,
"Ya I'm fine, just allergies."
"How did it happen, it couldn't have been an accident! Everyone knows your allergic ever since the whole incident with the school bake off!"
"Exactly..Lisa spilled peanut oil all over my back..."
Layla's face suddenly became one of fury.
"That bitch!! YOU COULD HAVE DIED!"
I laughed lightly, "but I didn't, let it go, I'm fine. I promise."
She sighed, "ok, well, I hate to do this but I have to head back to class, algebra test today."
"It's cool, I'll see you later ya?"
"Of course, later!"
We smiled at each other as she left the office, it was nice to talk to her.
I may my head back down once more, my eyes felt like they head dead weights on them, I couldn't keep them open. I slowly drifted off.....
•••••••••••••••••••I was choking, I couldn't breath, every breath I could get a hold of was shallow and quick. It was black. Then I look up and Lisa appeared above me, she was the one choking me! I tried to scream, but I now couldn't take a single breath. My lungs burned. Then, I opened my eyes, I say up in the small bed. It was just a dream. Just a dream Hailey, your fine.
"Bad dream?"
I jumped at a deep voice coming from behind me, but this time I recognized it.
"Hey Roman, and uh, ya... Bad dream. Also, how did you get in here!?!"
"The usual, I walked through the door, the sat down by your bed." He chuckled lightly at his own sarcasm.
I turned around so I could actually see him.
"Smartass." I try to act mad, but I can't hold back my smile.
He smiled right back at me, he had such a handsome smile, with straight white teeth, and dimples to. When he smiled his eyes lit up and I swear they sparkled. But enough of that he probably thinks I'm so creepy just staring at him!
"I'm sorry for sort of canceling our lunch plans..."
His smile fell. "Ya whatever" he replied.
My smile dropped and I probably resembled a deer caught in the headlights.
"Your.. Your mad?"
He burst out laughing, full out, doubled over laughter. When he finally composed himself he answered.
"Of course not! It's not your fault you have allergies!"
"How do you know what happened?"
He looked me in the eyes, his cheeks flushed ever so slightly.
"I um, may have tracked down your friend Kayla and asked her..."
So now it was his turn to be embarrassed.
"I mean all I heard was that you were on the nurses office for something serious, and I thought..well I thought it was some reoccurring thing from last night, so I wanted to make sure you were ok, so I asked your friend during passing time..."
He said all of that is under 5 seconds, stumbling over all of the words. But I didn't care about that, I wondered why he cared so much to come and check on me, I mean we only met yesterday!
To him I feel like I should just be the awkward freshie, (I am in the ninth grade) which means he must be older, I would have seen him if he was in my grade! So, I got the nerve to ask, I was now sitting on the edge of my bed, facing him. He was sitting on the chair in the corner that they put out for visitors.
"Why do you care if I'm ok? I mean, we just met yesterday...?"
He smiled a bit in my direction, then turned his face to the small window above the bed.
"I dunno, your nice and stuff, and you seem really cool, so I wanted to get to know you. Along with feeling like you need someone to watch you, I mean two accident in to days, it's pretty impressive!"
He chuckled again and turned his attention back to me. I was stunned by his confession of wanting to pretty much be my friend.
"You want to be MY friend!?"
"Well, ya, that's kind of what I'm getting at."
He laughed again, I stared at him for a few second, then dumbly asked.
"How old are you?"
"Seventeen, I'm a junior."
I was surprised, I expected him to be a sophomore, he looked younger than his age. He asked quietly.
"So, do you wanna hang out later, since lunch kinda fell through?
"Sure, what do you plan on doing?"
He looked thoughtfully for a moment, then Stated.
"Want to just eat at Giovanni's?"
"Sounds great! Six sound cool to meet?"
He smiled.
"That's perfect, so I'll see ya there!"
He got up and have me a large grin the walked out of the nurses office. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for the next hour.
