#1 Why is it that I tend to see a lot of female OCs but not many male ones?
Granted I lean a little towards the female side as well but I have made my fair share of male characters. Being a female myself I just think that males have much more freedom than females not only in real life but also in the Naruto Universe.
Kurenai is the only female jonin at the beginning of the first series and each team only has one girl in it either because the Hokage wants it that way or because most of the females are (I cannot believe I am saying this) in the kitchen.
All I am trying to say is spice things up, throw a male OC into your collection, and yes I know you have more than three OCs because I know I do.
#2 What are some good quality flaws for an OC?
It tends to be hard to level out your OCs power and weakness; you either have too many weakness or in most cases to many strengths. It could be flaws in personality, physic, abilities, or even a physiological one (i.e.: personality and psychological are two different things), like fears or even likes.
A personality flaw could consist of anything a normal human being would have, Hinata has her shyness, Rock Lee has his... obsessive behavior, Kakashi and Jiraiya have their hormones. Think about it, the flaw does not have to be all that bad just something that sets them apart from others.
Physic flaws are physical, the basic, they do not have to be something like the Hunch Back of Notre Dame, who had Kyphosis or the hunching of the spine. Most writers tend to use this as their major flaw but to tell the truth this will not level the playing field when it comes to overpowering an OC.
Physic is in here to warn you that you might (most definitely) want to take the other flaw routes.
Unless it is something as dramatic as the Hunch Back of Norte Dame then do not consider this a real flaw, consider them accessories like Itachi's necklace it is always there but no one really questions it.
Ability flaws: if this was a coming of age story then this would be what was different from the beginning to the end. This evolves like a Togepi, very slow, but with the right love, care, and environment the differences with be astonishing in the end.
In the beginning everyone is a little better at one thing than everyone else, just like in real life. Then they get even better at that at and a little better at something else as well, for example let’s take Sai when he was younger he most likely had a special thing for painting and when he got older he found a way to incorporate his love for painting into his ability.
But people are also terrible at things in the beginning; as everyone knows Naruto had a horrible time with chakra. But why does your flaw have to be chakra, it doesn’t!
It can be Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, or even the very basics like hand eye coordination, aim, stamina, agility, flexibility!
Now is time for the fear factor or the psychological aspect of your journey.
The fear you character can have can range from the common blood fear: Hemophobia or Hemaphobia or Hematophobia all the same thing, to a unique fear like Selenophobia the fear of the moon.

Do not let people’s idea of an OC hold you back from something you want to do.
Just because it hasn’t been done does not mean it is off limits!
