I scrap the fork against the plate as I pick up another piece of my eggs. They are warm and yummy. Grace, sitting across from me, smiles as she chews, “Are you going to go out today?”
I shake my head, “I’m just going to chill with you guys again.”
Dad shifts in his seat, “Well I’ve got to drive up to HQ today for a presentation.”
Looking down at the wooden table I chew. “So…”
“I’m going with him,” Grace says slowly.
“Oh.”
“Why don’t you go see some of your friends, or have them over?” Dad suggests.
Taking a deep breath I continue to look down. I’ve been home for an entire week, but I’ve told none of my friends, I can’t face them just yet. “I don’t think I will.”
Dad smacks his lips, “You promised to try Isabella. This isn’t trying.”
My heart sinks at the mention of the promise I made them the night I came back. I promised I would no longer be the zombie I was by keeping myself locked up from the rest of the world. “Okay,” I say quickly. “I’ll go see Ashton.” Dad and Grace look satisfied and we finish out breakfast.
When I finish my food, I excused myself to my bedroom. Lying across the bed, phone in hand I dial Ashton’s number and press send. Butterflies beat against the wall of my stomach, what if he is mad at me? What if he doesn’t want to see me? What if he hates me?
“Hello?” Ashton’s voice comes though the phone.
I panic for a moment and I don’t know what to say.
“Isabella, is that you?” Ashton asks.
“Yes. Um, hi Ashton,” I finally say.
“Isabella! How are you?”
I smile, he’s not mad at me, “I’m great, can we hang today?”
“Yes,” he says immediately. “I’ll meet you at the Smoothie King right now.”
I can’t help but laugh at his reply, “Alright Ashton, I’ll see you soon.”
Hanging up I go to my closet and pull on a dress and heels. Just running my fingers through my hair, deciding that it’s good enough.
I grab my purse, throwing in my wallet and keys as I walk through he kitchen. “I’m going to go meet up with Ashton,” I tell Dad, kissing him on the cheek.
Dad and Grace smile, “Good to hear, have fun,” Dad says.
I go over to Mason and plant a kiss on his head, “See ya later little man.” I hug Grace before I head out to my car and drive to the shops.
I have a nervous feeling the whole car ride there. Pulling into a spot I see him looking for me. His eyes scan the faces of the people passing by, disappointment and hope washing over him each time.
Taking a deep breath I cut the engine and get out of the car. My heels click against the pavement as I walk over to him. Some how he doesn’t notice me.
“Hey Ashton,” I say waving.
Ashton’s head whips around into my direction, he looks confused, but excitement takes over. “Isabella? Isabella!”
Ashton’s arm circle around my waist as he pulls me into a death hug. I return the hug by wrapping my arms around his neck. With a smile on my face I say, “I missed you.”
“I missed you so much Isabella,” he says into my neck.
Ashton places me back on the ground but holds my hand in the air while he looks me up and down.
