Chapter 3
I walked down the streets of Brooklyn carrying a Toys-R-Us plastic bag. I had just bought Riley a pretty baby doll that you could feed and treat it as it were an actual baby. I had been saving up to buy her the doll for a while and I finally had enough money to buy it. I was stuck walking home since my car needed repairing. It sort of unnerved me that I had to walk around in my kind of neighborhood at night. The cars next to me were speeding by me causing the breeze to caress my brown hair. Water splashed into my sneakers as I hit the wet pavement. I was about to pass an alley when I saw Christopher along with his gang. He was wearing a tight black shirt with short sleeves leaving his signature gang tattoos visible along with some jeans.
I looked away quickly and tried to not bring any attention to myself.
“Hey there, Rose.” He said, winking.
I tensed. “Hey. Sorry, I cant talk right now. I’m in a hurry.”
I started to walk away but Christopher stood in front of me blocking my way with a mischievous gleam in his blue eyes.
I sighed, folding my arms. “What do you want, Christopher?”
He grinned. “You’re going to be my date for my party tonight at 9.”
I scoffed. “Right.” I walked by him but he blocked my way once again.
“So how’s your little sister doing? Riley right?” He asked.
I raised an eyebrow, tensing once again. “How do you know about her?”
He shrugged. “I’ve got my ways. Cute girl. You wouldn’t want anything to happen to her would you?”
I balled up my hands into fists in anger. “You wouldn’t dare.”
He chuckled at that. “Rose I’ve killed many people in my lifetime. Do you think that I’m going to stop at your little sister? It’s funny how naïve you still are.”
“Fine! I’ll be your date but don’t you dare do anything to Riley.”
He grinned, tucking a strand of my hair that had found its way to the front of my face. “I wont, beautiful.”
I slapped his hand away and kept on walking ignoring his laugh.
When I got home I quickly looked at the clock and saw it was 8 pm. I groaned and rushed to my room.
I was about to pick out some clothes to wear to the party but I noticed two boxes and a small note on my bed. One was rectangle and the other one was shaped like a square. My eyes widened as I saw the Christian Louboutin logo on the brown box and the Chanel logo on the rectangle box. I swallowed, frightened. How did he get into my house? If he can get here so easily then he can easily kidnap Riley as well. I picked up the small note and read it.
Wear what I bought you. I don’t want you to embarrass me looking like a wreck. I need my date to be the sexiest girl in the party. After the party, you can keep them.
I could practically picture him saying the words with a smirk on his arrogant face. I opened the shoe box and gasped. They were the most beautiful shoes I had ever seen. They were black, open-toed high heeled shoes with black lace on them. I had never owned an expensive pair of shoes or dress in my life. My joy diminished as I thought what Christopher had to do to be able to buy the shoes and the dress. I had seen him around selling drugs to young teenagers and my heart dropped. Didn’t he know that he was ruining lives?
I opened the Chanel box and saw a stunning, vivid blood red dress that clung to every curve of my body in all the right places, making me look as if I were going to a cocktail party instead of a gang party. Once I was dressed I went to the bathroom and curled my hair with my black curling iron. After I was done with my makeup, I carried the Toys-R-Us bag into Riley’s room and smiled when I saw her asleep on the bed. She looked so peaceful and innocent unaware of the dangers of the world. I took the baby doll out of the bag and left it next to her.
I said my goodbyes to my parents and saw a brand new Mercedes parked outside my house. Marcos, One of the gang members of Christopher’s gang, was by the car waiting for me.
“Christopher sent me here to pick you up.” He said, looking bored.
I nodded. “I figured.”
The ride to Christopher’s house was silent and awkward so I was glad when we reached our destination. Music burst through the speakers as we walked in.
Christopher immediately spotted me and walked towards me with a drink in his hands. “Hey, babe.”
He kissed my cheek and I felt like cringing back but I let it slide and smiled instead. The faster this goes the better. A scrawny guy covered with tattoos walked towards us.
He grinned, licking his lip. “Damn, Chris! Where’d you find this one? You’re the man!”
Christopher laughed. “Hell yeah I am!”
I clenched my jaw. “If threatening someone to be your date makes you a man then yeah I guess so.”
Christopher glared at me with rage and grabbed my arm roughly. He dragged me to the bathroom his strength almost bruising my arm. He pushed me towards the sink, hurting my back.
“What the hell was that?!” He yelled.
I swallowed. “I’m sorry.”
He pulled out his sleek black gun from his jacket and glared at me. “You better be careful. I’m not going to have anyone embarrassing me at my own party!”
He took the gun and lifted my dress, exposing more of my thigh.
“If you do anything else to embarrass me I wont be so kind next time.” He whispered in my ear.
He put his gun away and we walked out of the bathroom. Anyone who saw us would have thought something else by looking at my flustered self. My hands were shaking with fear and I hid them so nobody would notice.
Suddenly Christopher’s face brightened. “The man of the hour is here!” He announced, grinning.
I followed his gaze and my heart stopped. The “man of the hour” was Jay.
