I twisted my hair into a ponytail, tucking it under my cap and lowering the brim. Then I took a final look around the room full of strangers, wondering which of them would help me escape, and which would try to kill me.
That's when I noticed him. From looking at his attire most would think he was just another one of those "badass" types. All in black. Big "I'll kill you first, then stomp on your face" boots. But his eyes, they told a whole 'nother story. The way they focused on me from across the room. The blue/grey color of them shining. I felt like he was actually seeing me.
"What are we doing here anyway?" My gaze reluctantly left that of the gorgeous man's and brought the now standing woman into light. Her long blond hair was twisted up into a high ponytail, but it still fell well past her black leather clad backside. "I'm tired of this waiting! Let us just leave. He most likely won't even show up. He's too caught up in his new bride."
The room began to murmur. Some agreeing with the woman while others shot her deathly glares.
"Victoria? Is that what you really think of me?" The room gasped as a tall man entered the room. His long platinum blond hair billowed out behind him as he stalked across the room, yet he seemed to be seething, or just didn't care at all. It was hard to tell, especially as I was now highly distracted by his ice blue eyes that accented the sharp planes of his face, and the beautiful paleness of his skin. "You really think I don't realize what goes on here, day in and day out? What you're up to? If you're angry, frightened, happy," he paused and directly looked at Victoria. "Jealous. Everything! I am here for all of you, and will be here for you. Always, but you had best realize now, that there are more than just all of you in my life." Victoria had straightened her back and stuck her nose in the air when he had directed part of his speech at her. By the end of it she seemed to be fuming.
She opened her mouth to direct another comment at the crowd but the look upon the man's face stopped her cold. Her eyes widened and she lowered her gaze to the floor in defeat. I tried to glimpse what had made her back down, but the man's face was turned away from me.
"Now." The room's attention was fully on that of the man's now. "Why are you all here you wonder?" I didn't wonder too much, I had a very good reason to believe it was me, but I wondered why I was here.
He turned to me as if he had heard me. A devilish smile spread across his overly handsome face slowly.
"You are here my dear, because you were called." He said. His deep voice seemed to swell in the room as all eyes turned in my direction.
"Excuse me?" I had not been called. I had just wandered in, accidentally. Okay, so maybe I had broken a lock or two to get in. But I hadn't expected anyone to be in what had been thought of for years as an abandoned mansion.
Once again I had been lured to a new place with the same promise. That something mysterious and wonderful inhabited these walls. I was expecting maybe a ghost or two, not a pack of...whoever they were. Or was it whatever?
"How naive you are." He turned to address the room. "This my grand creatures, is our past and our future."
A man cleared his throat and replied to the silence of the room. "You don't mean..."
"Yes, she is our seer."
"But Afanasi, how can you be sure? We have been so long without one; we had feared that we would never be gifted with another."
"I am sure Neo."
The man, Neo, stood slowly from where he sat and slowly walked towards me. His green eyes seemed to darken as he got closer as did his light blond hair. By the time he reached me his hair was jet black, and his eyes were the same, no whites at all.
