The Band Plays On

Chapter 8

Meanwhile back in the band room a large group of students began to form around two of the flute players who had fallen over and were now laying on the floor of the band room. One of the other flute players kicked her thinking she was just playing around, as the flutes commonly did. When she got no response she knelt down near the girl and shook her gently.

"Sophie?..."

The flute player named Josie murmured the girls name over and over. Never getting an form of response. On the other side of Sophie, Samantha laid on the floor in similar conditions. The two girls were shook and their names were repeated over and over, but still no response. Someone yelled over the noise that grew in the room

"Someone go get Maximus and Maron!"

One of the alto sax players ran out of the room and upstairs to tell the two of what was happening down stairs. He ran up the stairs and down the hall to the nurse's office.

"Two of the flute players are down!"

Maximus nodded and followed the alto player out the door

"What happened? How did they go down?"

"No one knows for sure. They just fell over and no one can get any respo-"

The guys response was interrupted by a shrill scream that came flooding up from the band room. Maximus broke into a dead sprint and went launching down the stairs, throwing open the band room door he was greeted with the scene of two girls with green skin and yellow tinted eyes were lunging themselves at the kids crammed in the room. Maximus grabbed the stand that holds the back door to band room open and charged at the nearest girl he threw the stand down on her head knocking her to the floor. Not too long after though she got back up and turned running onto Maximus. Maximus grabbed her hair and yelled for someone to open the elevator. Stephine, one of the girls on drum line ran out into the hall and slammed the elevator button Maximus came out and threw Sophie, the girl he had by the hair, on to the elevator he slammed the shut button and ran back in the band room. The other girl Samantha had knocked over Damon, one of the trumpet players and was struggling to bite his arm. Damon was fighting back, kicking and punching with his free hand trying to get the girl off him. He let out a scream of pain as the girl was able to bite down on his arm, blood quickly spilling from the fresh wound. Maximus ran up and grabbed both of them. Watching a lot of zombie movies he knew things like this were transmitted through bites or scratches, depending on the situation. Maximus moved towards the door, dragging both Samantha and Damon. He threw them into the elevator with Sophie and slammed the button that took the elevator up to the second floor. He made sure the students stayed in the elevator before running up the stairs to greet them once the got to the top. Maximus waited at the elevator for the door to open once it did, he smiled faintly

"Come and get me"

He said as he began walking down the hall towards the nurse's office. The three began following, even Damon. He didn't know why he was but his legs carried him that way. Sophie began running after Maximus. Maximus then broke into a dead sprint back down the hall.

"Maron! Open the office door! But don't let Rick out!"

Maximus shouted as he neared the office. Maron did as Maximus told him and opened the door. Trying to prevent Rick from getting out. Maximus neared the office and ran inside. The three following him. He used the stand to shove them inside. As soon as he had them all inside he slammed the door shut and slid with his back against the door till he sat on the floor, breathing heavily. He looked up at Maron.

"All hell is breaking loose on this band" He said slowly.
