"José was my loyal friend for 15 years. We had many experiences during that time. We laughed, we cried, we fought, and laughed again. I can go hours and hours talking about the kind of person he was, but most of you already know.
I have good memories of my friend. In these 15 years of friendship I only remember one fight, and it was over food. There are so many adventures we've been through, and I could go on for hours and-"
"Luke, it's okay. Let him go"
Lykas fragile hand on my shoulder made me jump. I turned around; ready to scream at her for interrupting my speech but instead I took in the view in front of me.
Her perfect black hair that was curled into near perfection framed her beautiful face, her prominent cheekbones standing out. She was looking at me with worry written on her flawless face, her dull, grey eyes searching mine for some kind of sign that showed; I'm okay.
Her signature plump, red lips were pouted.
I felt a smile making its way on my bony face. It would be a good thing to smile, considering that I haven't smiled or showed any emotion in the last 24 hours. But it was a weak smile. It showed that I was feeling defeated, devastated, abandoned and the worst of all. I was feeling guilty.
Because I killed my very own, best friend
My girlfriend of 5 years must have noticed my change of emotion because she started to wrap her tiny, fragile arms around my waist.
Her head buried in my chest.
"It's okay Luke. He's in a better place now" my thick sweatshirt muffled her voice.
It was mid-march. Summer was coming to an end and it already started to get a bit chilly outside. But I liked it. I was never a summer kind of guy, which is a stupid thing considering that I've lived in Australia my whole life.
The only thing I really like in summer am the summer rain and the smell after the heavy raindrops fall.
Lyka and I would run outside once it started to rain and we would jump into big puddles and just carelessly making a mess.
Her grey eyes would light up while she's laughing. The sound ringing like music in my ears. Her deep dimples would show and it would all be perfectly fine. Like there's not a single problem we would have to solve.
"Luke! Are you done yet? I'm getting hungry. No screw that. I'm already starving."
Lyka unwraps her arms from me and we both turn around.
Aurora was standing a few feet away from us.
We were standing on a big field behind the university where I just buried José.
Her big blue eyes seemed tired, like always. But her smile said otherwise.
"C'mon Luke" she laughed, "Get over it. It's just a stupid turtle"
"Aurora!" Lyka gasped beside me "You can't say that. You know how much José meant to Luke"
Rolling her eyes, she stomped towards us.
"Watch out!" it was the first thing I said to her today "You're standing on José!"
Her eyes growing wide, she gaped down her feet. An apologetic smile on her big pink lips as she saw the tiny gravestone she stood on.
