Don't give up on me

Chapter 4

-Present time-
Meiko was still in his apartment, waiting for him to arrive with the music. She wanted to continue practicing the song, but something about the picture shattered her. Her heart felt heavy..aching. Everything had just dawned upon her, the melancholy atmosphere of his apartment, how lonely he must've been.. She thought of his worn out hands, the coloured ink dripping off the picture. That was probably his family..but where was he? Meiko, who was always one with sharp instincts, knew when something wrong was going on. She wanted to do something to help..but what?
-KAITOS pov-
After around 10 minutes of walking, he had gotten everything he needed. He always hated going out, seeing all those posters of his family. He sighed as he thought, looking around at all the advertisements, half of them showing either his beautiful, angelic looking sister, or his mother. There was always this one that he hated passing by, the big family portrait of them plastered on the mall entrance. "The perfect family" was written in bold letters, and his father, his mother, and his kid sister, were all positioned together, like a nice welcoming family. 'Ah..it's getting late..I should hurry' he thought to himself, suddenly feeling the urge to see her face. She seemed to have this feeling about her..he couldn't describe it..when he was around her his palms felt sweaty, his stomach fluttery, his heart heavy and light at the same time..she was just so calming to be around. To take away his problems, even just for a bit. Kaito closed his eyes and imagined her gentle, warming smile, her flushed pink cheeks, unknowingly speeding up.
'I want to see you.'

Not a while after, kaito had started running full speed and arrived at the apartment, panting hard, sweat droplets adorning his forehead. It was the first time he had been so flushed.. What was happening to him..?
"Meiko..!" He exclaimed, opening the door a little too harshly and cringing a little, once he heard it hit the wall.
"Sorry..I took so long..!" Kaito breathed out, between pants.
Though, once he raised his head he was greeted by a sad, but beautiful sight.
The person he longed to see, her beautiful smile, had turned into a sad one. Tears streamed down Meikos cheeks, her eyes were puffy and red, as she tried to wipe the tears away with the back of her hand, but to no avail. She was sitting on the piano, tears dancing across her cheek onto the keys.
"Kai..to.." He heard her sweet voice, shaking. His heart shattered. His hands trembled. His heart pace quickened. 'I did it again..it's my fault..' Kaito involuntarily dropped everything he was holding and almost as if it was a reflex, ran towards her and reached out to hug her, stopping midway.
'I can't..it might just make her even more upset..I knew I shouldn't have brought anyone home. No one should be friends with me..' He didn't want to..taint her. She didn't deserve this..everyone around him always ended up regretting it, or getting hurt. He dropped to his knees, gently holding her hand instead.
"I-im sorry..I-I really am..im sorry I took so long..I--" he was cut off by gentle arms pulling him into a hug. It was warm..calming..he felt her trembles, her sniffles, her tears.
"B-Baka..Baka Baka Baka!! Don't apologize..it's not your fault..none of it is!" She held him closer, burying her cheek into his shoulder. She felt his arms wrapping around her, trying not to tremble as well.
"I'm sorry.." Meiko heard his shaky whisper, then felt his embrace tighten on her. Though he still didn't know what had happened, he felt like she knew. She knew everything that he was thinking.. Then out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a small piece of paper, with small words written on it that he could barely make out, resting atop of the piano.
"Its alright"
-flashback-
As Meiko was waiting for him, she had decided to switch the song she wanted to play for him. She pushed herself up and made her way to the piano, sat herself down softly and started to harmonize with the piano. Her fingers laced the keys, her singing ringing throughout the apartment
"大丈夫　大丈夫　おどけてみせる僕    Its okay, it's alright, since I'm the one playing the fool....
客席に泣いてる君を見
But I saw you crying in the audience.
そんな悲しい顔はしないでよ    
Please do not put on such a sad face.
パパもママも知らない君の涙..."
As she was singing, she felt tears stinging her eyes, thoughts of kaito filling her mind. She felt the hot tears streaming down her cheeks, but she continued playing anyways. All her emotions poured out into this piece, tears slowly forcing their way out and dripping onto her hands.
'I want to see you.'
-end of flashback-
The two were glued in an embrace for what seemed like a seemingly long time..but in their world 'time' was merely a word. They could've stayed in the others arms forever, and neither one would oppose.
-KAITOS pov-
Kaito felt at peace with her, he felt light, light as a feather. He could've stayed in her arms forever..Tears lined his cheeks, as he nuzzled her shoulder gently. How long has it been..since he had hugged someone like this..since he had felt the love and warmth of an embrace? Butterflies danced around in his stomach, as he just let all his tears out. He felt her soft, reassuring touch, stroking his sapphire hair gently. Kaito clung onto her like a life source. He loved her..even though they had just met..he knew she was the one. But he was scared..scared she would give up on him like all the others..scared that there would be a time where her tears were caused by him.. He shoved that thought to the back of his mind, and tried to wipe his tears away but soon his cheeks were soaked. Kaito was vulnerable with her..weak..his mask was broken and he was like a child at the moment. Kaito didn't even notice how hard he was clinging onto her, until her grip loosened and he felt her arms slip away from him. He shivered, afraid she was going to walk away, but instead, he watched as she wiped away her tears and held her small sniffles and made her way to the piano.
She patted the seat lightly, flashing her beautiful smile that seemed to calm his soul. The smile that he longed to see. She motioned for him to come sit beside her, and that was exactly what he did. Tears were still making their way out of the corners of his eyes, but Meiko had wiped off all of them with her gentle touch.
"Well..I guess it's finally time to fulfill my end of the bargain isn't it..?" She smiled jokingly and let out a small laugh. She was just so beautiful.. "You're right..! Please do" Kaito flashed a kind smile back at her, still sniffling but letting out a small laugh as well.
-Meikos pov-
She took a deep breath, and placed her fingers on the keys.
'I hope this reaches him..please..' She thought to herself, then her fingers started to prance around gracefully on the keys, her voice like bells interlocking with the melodies.
She sang with all her heart, wanting him to know she was here..that she loved him. The two were just perfect for each other..
She felt his cheek lean on her shoulder as she was playing, tears making their way out once again.
"大丈夫 大丈夫　君が見つけてくれた
Its okay, it's alright, you have found for me
忘れかけてた僕の顔
My real face in which I've seem to forgotten
大丈夫、君にはいつだって僕がいる。
It's alright, I'm always here for you."
As she sang the last line, the last tear trickled down her cheeks, as she turned to meet his deep oceanic eyes, that seemed to be an endless stream of emotions, tears filling his orbs. He lifted he hand, gently cupping her cheeks and wiping the last tear away, as she leaned in closer. Their noses were touching, breaths lacing one another. She could feel his breath trickling against her cheeks, sending shivers down her spine. A soft pink lined both their cheeks, as their breathing got closer and heavier,and breath was taken away by the warmth and gentleness of his lips. They fit together like a perfect puzzle..he was hers and she was his, created for each other.. He could faintly make out her last words, before their lips touched.
"I love you.."
