Jake's POV

That day never seemed like anything unusual. It seemed to be the same as every other Saturday morning. The sun, the happiness of  the weekend. The drowsiness after sleeping in way past the socially accepted time.

I had woken up that morning, gotten dressed and gone to go gym with Mark and Caleb. We'd returned to my house for a very large lunch to fill our ravenous stomachs.

Mark had mentioned a party and I'd been keen to go, as always.

They left and I relaxed for the afternoon, soaking in the summer sun. Eventually, as expected, I overheated and decided to go for a swim at the community pool.

I never expected to see her there. There she was, Zoey was lying there in the sun. Her sexy body was exposed in her white bikini, her radiant eyes hidden by large sunglasses. She wasn't with any friends, just seemed to be enjoying the sun and pool by herself.

There was no one else there. I remember that particularly clearly. I had her all to myself.

I walked in and put my bag and towel down on a lounge chair a couple across from her, but she didn't seem to notice. That's when I noticed the blue i-pod in her right hand and the earphones planted in her ears.

She might even be sleeping.

Oh well, I thought. No harm in waking her up.

I took a run up to the pool and dive-bombed into it, surely splashing everything within a reasonable distance. I rose up from the water not knowing what to expect. All I knew was that I wanted to talk to her, and I wanted it badly.

She was standing there, her skin glistening with sprinkles of water. Her sunglasses were perched atop her blonde hair, the cheeky pink streak peaked through the locks of hair which were tucked behind her ear.

She stood with her hand on her hip, looking extremely cocky. Not to mention kissable.

"Hi," I said and gave a devilish grin up at her.

She squinted at me and pursed her lips, unintentionally giving me that adorable pout that I loved.

"I think 'Hi' doesn't sufficiently explain yourself. Try again Jake." My heart skipped a beat at the fact that she knew my name. Well, who didn't, but still - our circles didn't really mix.

"Well I was concerned that you might be overheating... it's kind of hot out here, but it might just be you now that I think about it," I said, anticipating a smile or perhaps even a laugh. For her to flirt back was a huge step up.

"Nah, I'm too cool to be hot. Nice line though, Biscuit." She laughed and the sound was seductive, addictive and altogther too melodious to be of this realm.

"Biscuit?" I enquired, raising an eyebrow.

"Your hair. It lookes like a chocolate biscuit." She gave me a once over, as if ensuring that her original observation was, indeed, correct.

"Well if we're handing out nicknames based on appearance, then I guess I'm going to have to call you Angel. Or perhaps not, they wouldn't let you into heaven."

"Oh, is that so? And why not... am I bad girl?" She asked in that tone of hers... the one that makes you want to just grab her and kiss the shit out of her.

"Well, you'd make the other angels look ugly. But don't worry, you can stay here and be my angel," I said, taking a risk - going just past flirting to enquiring.

"Da'mn boy," she said, faking a southen accent, "you sure know how to woo a girl. So you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?" She winked at me and sat back down onto the lounge chair.

I immediately rose up out of the pool giving her a full view of me. I dripped water as I walked slowly towards her, never breaking eye contact.

Never in my wildest dreams had I imgined she'd ever be remotely interested in someone like me. Finally I stood in front of her and cast a shadow so she could stop squinting and shading her eyes. Finally, I looked full on into those gorgeous emerald green gems that are set just above her button nose and full, pouting lips. Her scattering of freckles looked adorable as ever, and the naughty glint in her expression was seductive enough to drive a lesser man crazy.

Still advancing, I gauged her reaction as I got closer and closer. She never backed down, and out of the blue, rose up and sat up straight, closing the distance between our lips to mere inches.

As she spoke, her minty breath caressed my face and I inhaled deeply, swallowing her scent. She smelled just as good as she looked- something erotic, definitely sweet.

"You sure are brave to be hunting the lioness," she said, chuckling at her own humor.

"Somtimes you gotta go big or go home," I whispered, just before I closed the distance between us. As our lips touched my eyes closed and I was in absolute bliss.

All I could feel was her. My hands around her waist on that soft skin, her hands around my neck and her smell everywhere.

That was the first time I ever kissed Zoey.

The next few weeks harboured meetings between the two of us, always a sense of rich passion tingling between us. The connection was undeniable.

Three weeks after my life became amazing, Zoey didn't show up to the pool one day. Determined to still see her, I jogged to her house, unknowingly about to witness the breaking point of Zoey's childhood.

When I reached her house, I saw the ambulance and the police car. There'd been an accident.

I was petrified. Voices in my head were clamouring that something might have happened to her, to my angel. I ran and burst open the front door to find a crying Zoey and father. In the corner of the room was a gourney with a black sheet over it... Zoey's mother was nowhere to be seen.

After that Zoey stopped talking to me. She stopped talking to everyone; her friends, her teachers. She came to school in jeans and a hoodie everyday, hiding beneath the music played constantly by her i-pod.

I had thought that things couldn't get worse, but then about three months later, Zoey's father died. After that, Zoey went beyond return - she stopped eating, lost weight, didn't wear any makeup and didn't care about herself.

Then one day, she vanished and I never saw her again.

Until now...
