Through the crack in the curtains, the sun shone in Hermione's room but it was the tapping sound that woke her. She opened her eyes slowly and pushed herself upright. A few days passed since Hermione had decided to stay at the Leaky Cauldron. She looked around the room trying to find the source of the tapping noise that grew louder the longer she took. Moving the covers off of her she slid out of bed and walked over to the window where the sound seemed to be coming from. She opened the curtain to see a barn owl impatiently scratching at the window with a letter in his other foot. Hermione opened the window and the owl flew in hastily dropping the envelope on a small table then returning straight out the window. Hermione closed the window then walked to where the letter sat, picking it up, and looking at the address. It was addressed to Hermione Granger from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the Hogwarts crest pressed into the wax that sealed it. She ripped it open and unfolded the letter. It read the following:
HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
Headmistress: Minerva McGonagall
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)Dear Ms. Granger,
We are pleased to inform you that Hogwarts will be inviting back 7th years for a repeat year of school. As the year had been interrupted by the events involving Lord Voldemort we would like to offer an extra year to those who wish to get their education as originally planned. We hope that you will be joining us once again.Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than August 21st.
Yours sincerely,
Elgort Winstry"McGonagall is Headmistress, good for her. And this Elgort Winstry must have taken her old position" Hermione flipped the letter to see the back where a list of items she would need for the school year was attached. She had most of the items from before and only had to pick up a few more. She then noticed that another letter was poking out of the envelope. She slid out the piece of paper which stated:
Dear Ms. Granger,
It is an honor to invite you to be Head Girl at our prestigious school. You have shown great bravery and leadership over the years which are both very important skills for this role. You will find your badge in an incoming package. As for your living arrangements, you will be sharing a dormitory with the Head boy with separate rooms. I do hope that you two will learn to get along.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall"Wow, guess this year won't be as relaxed as I hope but it beats what I've dealt with in the past. I wonder who the other Head is, however" After searching for the name of her future partner of which she found none, she placed the letter back down and proceeded with her morning routine. She then decided to get a head start on her school shopping. She grabbed her bag, wand, and list then headed out the door.
As she walked down the hall Hermione was lost in thought when she bumped into something large. She looked up and saw the tall blonde she had seen a few days before. "Sorry" She mumbled out, then went to step around him. Immediately he stepped to the side blocking her path.
"And where would you be going today Miss. Granger?" He smirked down at her crossing his arms.
"None of you're business Malfoy. Get out of my way." She went to take another step but he moved blocking her path yet again.
"I was just asking a question Fun Size. No need to get so riled up."
"Fun Size?!" Hermione huffed. "What are you even doing here?"
"'None of your business'" he mimicked her earlier statement.
"Whatever, just leave me alone" after a few moments of them moving back and forth she finally managed to slip past him and walked towards the end of the hall.
