The Secret of the Winged

CHAPTER TWO

"Wake up Coraline you'll be late for school!" Her mother exclaimed from down below.
Coraline was a Himanian or in simpler words a "Winged Being". That's because she had enormous white feathery wings like a bird's, and tiny black horns on each side of her head- which you could rarely see because  her hot pink bushy hair was always in the way. She had piercing light blue eyes and tanned skin.
She got up and yelled back," OKAY OKAY! I'm up! Stop shouting," as she got out of bed she thought about the weird dream she had had just now. She had always tried to ask her mother about her father but she always hushed Coraline and changed the topic, so she thought it really would be no use to ask now.
As she dressed she remembered that it was finally the end of her boring summer holidays and the first day if school, she had missed her school- maybe not the studying- a lot and all her friends especially Tammy, who was her best friend since they were kids.
Coraline hurried up with her breakfast and kissed her mother goodbye.

She walked down the enormous bough of the tree she lived on, the dream she had had earlier kept coming in her thoughts." CORALINE! HEY! CORI," Coraline turned around with a big grin on her face and looked up- there she was, Tammy swooshing down from the sky to meet her. And together they started to run to take flight , they went soaring in the sky. "So, how were your summers?" Asked Tammy," UGH!SO BORING! Just like the rest, I don't see why mother doesn't let me go anywhere outside except for school," Coraline replied."She probably thinks you'll be eaten up by an Ostrofent!" Tammy chuckled. "Oh shut up! Everyone knows they're a myth.Honestly, a pink bird with razor sharp teeth and purple eyes that wobble? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in my 15 years of existence." "Oh well at least it's over now, by the way, have you seen Emerys around lately?" Tammy said wiggling an eyebrow at Coraline. " No and zip it he's right behind you" Coraline said going as pink as her hair.

"Welcome back students, we hope you've had a relaxing summer but now it's time to gear up and start working hard again. I would like to introduce you all to the knew potions mistress Gwendawich Wazouski." Principal Gurphent turned to the new potions teacher and smiled. "She looks creepy, but then all the potions' teachers have been creepy so far." Said Tammy shrugging.

The assembly went on with Principal Gurphent talking about all the school rules.
Coraline was starting to dose off when someone tapped on her shoulder, she turned around to see who it was and caught her breath- it was Emerys asking her if he could sit beside her for all the other seats were full, Coraline nodded and blushed when their hands brushed past. She sat down feeling awkward but her thoughts once again drifted off to the peculiar dream she had had but was again interrupted by Emerys, he was trying to make small talk and Coraline didn't want to talk. "So what do you think about her, the potions teacher I mean" he whispered. Coraline sat up and replied," eh she's okay I guess, though she does look kind of creepy but who knows what's she's really like after all you shouldn't judge a book by its cover" Emerys chuckled and said,"well yes, but she looks like she wants to blow up everything" then he continued and said,"Coraline , that's your name isn't it?" Coraline nodded, Emerys said,"that's great! We're in the same Leaf." Coraline laughed nervously, waved him goodbye and dragged Tammy out of the assembly hall.
