Mark
"Mark! Hurry up come on!" As usual Mark Fide was late for work. Not that he was an unreliable person. He was always unpunctual. Add ten minutes to the time he promised and he'll be there, completely out of breath and stressed out. His roommate, Kyle, was the one who drove him to work. Since Mark won a bet once, about how many numbers Kyle could get on one night at a bar. Zero. Just like Mark foretold him. Now he had to drive him to work for two months.
With undone hair, shoes in his hands and unzipped jeans he literally jumped into the car and closed the door right behind him. "You really should get a girl who wakes you up, or a dozen alarm clocks!", Kyle said pissed and started the car. Mark didn't seem to hear any of it and just yelled "GO!", with a desperate voice and whirling hands. His roommate just rolled his eyes and went off.
After ten minutes of changing in the car and mumbling about how unreliable alarm clocks were, they finally arrived. With a short but loud "Thank you!" Mark left the car and ran towards the building he worked in. Mark worked at a company called NICO Electronics, which developed different kinds of security programs. They were also involved in some video game productions. Mark was a student at the local university of Los Angeles. The University of California, Los Angeles or UCLA for short. To get some practical experience he took on an internship for his studies. He only worked at Mondays and Tuesdays. He spent the other days at the UCLA or in his room at his computer.
"Good morning Mr. Fide, punctual as usual", the guard said with a sarcastic grin. Mark just smiled back and took the first elevator that arrived at the lobby. After a soft ding, the door opened and Mark entered the elevator, which was completely empty. After he pressed the button for the 4th floor the door closed behind him. He took a look at himself in the mirror. The young twenty year old man looked awfully stressed out. After he took a deep breath he tried to fix his dark short hair which was standing up like a soldier in front of a general. The 1st floor passed and he gave up and went over to his clothes, which were easier to manage. He put the end of his shirt into his jeans, which emphasized his athletic body, placed his glasses on his nose and finally zipped his dark jeans. "I hope Mr. Derns doesn't kill me for being late again", Mark whispered to himself. His boss was one of the more easy bosses which tolerated more than others. But, Mr. Derns younger brother was killed in a robbery one month ago and that changed his mood drastically. Which was totally understandable. Before the door opened Mark sent a little pray to the heavens that Mr. Derns wouldn't notice that he was late again. The elevator dinged again and the door opened.
Everybody was running around like lunatics. Stress, adrenalin and sweat everywhere. Mark went to his desk as fast as he could. Not an easy task when almost ten people would block your way. Like a car on the highway he dodged his running colleagues. Five minutes have passed and Mark finally reached his dark desk at the end of the room. He sat down and was relieved to hear that Mr. Derns hasn't arrived yet. "Thank god", Mark whispered and turned his computer on. The logo of NICO electronics appeared and the familiar melody was heard from the sound boxes. The young man stretched his fingers and entered his password. The computer loaded for a short time and the interface of the company program started, connecting him with the great Server of NICO electronics.
