Downtown Trash

The stars seemed to be shining extra bright that night. Like they knew that I had just had the most amazing evening. The moon was hiding behind the one cloud in the sky but for some reason I found it quite beautiful. I was in bed lying on my stomach with my window open. It was chilly tonight but I loved the feel of the outside air.

I had come in and slumped down on the couch trying to catch my breath. My heart thumped at one hundred miles per hour. Mom was already in bed which was kind of odd for her this early. But my mind was so far away I hadn't even really worried about it at the time.

I wanted to text Lucy but what would I say? Brag about how amazing my date was? Well that would just be cruel and I knew it. I wished Lucy could understand more sometimes. But it wasn't her fault her Mom was so protective. Sure she could sneak out to parties and such. But what kind of Prince Charming could you meet there? Wait.. Oh yeah I met Adam at one.

I thought back to when I met Lucy. The story always made me giggle. It was sixth grade orientation, my first time even entereing the school. We had just moved from Nevada and were lost. There were signs everywhere with arrows pointing to different places for different grades so we followed. Along the way we met.

"That's not fair. It's my picture I'll wear what I want!" Lucy yelled at her. She then crossed her arms and stomped her foot. I was bewildered that anyone would talk to their mom that way. I could only imagine the terrible things Mom would do to me if I did anything like that.

After the shock set it in I gave Lucy a good looking at. She was wearing a blue dress with white bow at the waist and her hair was in braids. I tried so hard not to laugh but I couldn't contain myself.

Mom glared at me as we got in line for pictures. But it was to late Lucy was full out glaring at me. Then what I least expected happened.

"You look funny," She said with a large smile. I stopped laughing and stared at her.

She wasn't finished,"Who wears a regular tshirt to picture day?"

I wanted to cry. I had nothing else at the time but old tshirts. I felt myself tearing up to fast and one tear fell.

I saw her expression change and she came over and said,"I'm sorry. I'm Lucy, what's your name?"

I looked up at her and said, "Blythe."

She thought for a moment and then said,"That's a weird name."

Finally her mother looked over and said, "Lucy stop! Be nice to her."

But even my younger self knew she saw me as nothing lower then dirt. I was in old jeans with holes in them, gross to big tennis shoes and a god awful shirt. Compared to her who obviously had money.

Lucy walked close to me again and whispered,"Don't worry I'll be your friend," and she grabbed my hand.

It had been a rocky road through high school. We had definitely had our ups and downs. But what friends didn't? Her Mom still didn't like me much. Thought I was a 'bad influence'. She liked to blame me for the clothes Lucy chose to wear. Her being on the darker side had very little to do with me. I wore what I had and yes sometimes that meant lots of black. But Lucy bought her clothes that way. For reasons unknown to even me.

I fell asleep that night thinking about Lucy.

I slept in till one that next day. Which was very odd for me.

When Mom saw me she started laughing. My hair was falling out of last nights ponytail and in the night my lip had busted leaving my mouth in a bloody mess when I woke up. All this I knew when I walked out but I was just to lazy to go to the bathroom first. I wiped off my mouth on a napkin and grabbed a glass of orange juice.

Mom sat down across from me with her arms crossed. I looked away with a small laugh. But she was dressed in her scrubs for work so I knew whatever she had to say would be short.

"So where were you last night?" She said.

"On a hot date," I said heavy with sarcasm. That made me want to laugh even more. Because even though I was being sarcastic I was for once be truthful.

She squinted and said, "Really? With the hotty who carried you home?"

I nodded and she raised her eyebrows.

~Adams POV~

I was still smiling from the night before when my Mom stormed in my room.

"We need to talk. My office in ten minutes," She said and then stormed out.

My stomach dropped momentarily. But only for a moment because the thought of Blythe made me smile. I hadn't texted her last night or this morning yet. I didn't want to seem to eager you know? Oh yeah I was supposed to be going to Mom's office.

I slowly walked there really having no idea what she had to rant at me about now.

I entered and she was typing viciously on her computer. She used a hand gesture to motion me to sit down. Iooked around her office. I was only allowed in here when she invited me in. It was a huge room probably bigger then a regular size apartment. There were bookshelves covering the walls. Mostly filled with encyclopedias and dictionary's. Also tons of picture albums.

"Adam," She said staring at me very intently.

I raised my eyebrows and said, "yes mother?"

"I got a call from Susanne, Lauri's mother saying you went out on a date last night," She said peering at me over the top of her glasses.

My mind did a quick scan of what about my date offended her so. She knew I dated girls and that often I didn't even come home after.

She sighed and said, "She said you went out with a girl from the public school downtown?"

I gave her a very unamused look and replied simply,"Yes and I had a wonderful time."

I got up to leave now knowing exactly where this was going.

"Adam! What have I told you about messing around with downtown trash?" She said in the coldest tone  I have heard from her in years.

I turned around and said,"It's not like that it's-"

She interrupted,"So it's a charity case? How sweet, go find yourself a gold digging whore. When she gives you an incurable disease and takes all of our money I'm sure whatever it's 'not like' will be obvious."

I wanted to punch her. I felt my pulse speed up and I had to clench my first. I stormed out amazed at how cruel she could be. Maria was one time and she was never going to let me forget it! Blythe.. Was well different. Maria was just pure sex who accidently fell in love with me. Well or so she said, she was probably just a gold digging whore though.

Blythe...
