Those on duty with the counter need not to clean up and pack up the books but we helped anyway. After doing all that we could, Mr. Lee asked if we would like to come to his place to unwind. I phoned my mom to see if she was okay with it and she said yes. Sim didn't bothering calling her mom because she was out working and probably will not come back until 5 or 6 in the morning. His father left him when he was 2. He never told me why and I did not ask.
Dana's parents on the other hand needed some persuasion. After minutes of persuading followed by Mr. Lee sweet talk, her parents agreed but with the condition that she is back before 9. "Bye, mom. Love you too." She hung up. "Do not make fun of me just because I said I love you to my mom." She glared at me. I held my hands up as if I was innocent.
"You guys ready to go?" Mr. Lee asked us as he reached for his keys. We all followed him to the carpark. "Can I drive?" Sim asked. All three of us gave him an evil look.
"You almost murdered us the last time you drove. Plus, you are still underage." Mr. Lee said.
"You let me drive that day."
"It was your birthday, Sim. Now get into the backseat." Sim whined and sat in between Dana and me. "Pizza or McD?" Mr. Lee asked.
"Pizza." Sim and I answered in unison. Dana rolled her eyes. Mr. Lee threw me his phone and told me to order the pizza through delivery.
We sat in silence for a while before Sim broke the silence, as per usual. "Any progress with Joanne?"
"Yea, I got her number."
He laughed. "I'm serious." I said. I showed him my phone. Then, I realized I have not saved her number. I usually put weird names on my contacts. For example, Sim as Crazy Friend and all my exes as Do Not Answer. "If that is her number, why haven't you called her?"
"She is probably on her plane back to America right now. Plus, we got the three days rule, remember?"
Sim nodded but Dana shouted, "Jerks." We frowned at her. "If you like her, just call her. Why follow a stupid rule?" She commented.
"First off, it is a not a rule. It's the bro code. Secondly, I don't like her." I lied. I couldn't see it because of the darkness but I could have sworn Dana rolled her eyes and gave me the finger. We rode in silence for a while before Dana asked who the girl was.
"Joanne Hunter." I said lazily, not expecting her to know.
"Haha. Funny. She's an actress. She got better sense than give her number to you."
"It's true, Dana." Sim backed me up. Through the occasionally headlights, I could see she was looking at us funnily and wanting to make sure we are telling the truth. When she dawned on the realization that we are telling the truth, she went hysterical. "Oh my god, oh my god." She squeaked. "My boyfriend best friend is dating Joanne Hunter." She said it as if it was going to be any truer.
"Lucky chap." Mr. Lee said from the front seat. "I believe we said it's a fiver?" I asked for the bet money.
"Piss off. I bought you dinner." He replied. "Remind me to never bet with you again." I said as the car pulled into the runway of his house.
His house was huge especially for a guy who does not have a family. He got a backyard, a swimming pool, three bedrooms and so much more. By the time we ate the last slice of pizza, Sim and I already downed 2 cans of beer each. Mr. Lee let us but only a can and if Sim and I shared it. Well, he did not notice it when we drank 5 cans right after we finished our finals.
