Chapter 1

"Sasuke's getting married?" Sakura gasped, a loud clink made her jump, her eyes lowered down to the floor, she had dropped the container that held medical herbs. Her vision blurred and she turned her back to her friend who stood in the room with her, picking up the herbs. Ever since they were young, she had always thought she would be standing next to him, to fill his lonely heart. But it doesn't look like it anymore, it wasn't her position to begin with and yet it broke her and that was the final blow.

She felt sick, she felt like it was the end of the world, the love of her life, the man that made her heart pound silly... was now getting married. 

"Sakura?" Naruto knelt beside her, his eyes widened as he saw tears stain the wooden floor of her bedroom. His heart broke for his friend, he knew the feelings she harboured for his best friend, he once was in her shoes. He knew how that felt. Naruto remembered the conversation he had with the Uchiha, how the Uchiha reminded him that it wasn't his fault that the young pinkette was in love with him. How it was never going to happen. He balled his fist when he said that he was getting married a woman from who knows where.

"I'm sorry Saku-" He began but was interrupted by her "I'm happy for him." She sadly laughed, as she placed the medicinal herbs back in her cabinet and she walked over to her kitchen. Sakura had made them two bowls of ramen, she puts it on the tray and making her way to her balcony where a small table with two chairs were placed in the corner looking out to the village. Naruto following behind, not saying a word to his friend who seemed to be lost in her own world.

"Come. Eat." She sat down and picked up her chopsticks before picking at her noodles, Naruto followed, careful with his next words he picked up his chopsticks and observed Sakura. Naruto gripped hard on her chopsticks, it was painful watching his best friend. Tears started to spill from her eyes, she noticed as she picked up the bowl and stuffed her face with ramen.

Sakura chewed through tears "Damn this is good ramen." She said as stuffed her face again. Naruto tried to grab her hands to stop her from eating or she'll choke. "It's not like he would ever return my feelings. I'm happy for him. Really." Sakura sniffed as she continued to eat. Naruto looked at his best friend sitting in front of him, he knew how much it hurts to loose someone he loved to another. But this? He can't imagine what she's going through. Sakura dropped her chopsticks, she broke down into little sobs. Naruto clenched his jaw as he smashed his fist on the table, Sakura didn't jump at the reaction but she wiped the tears away not wanting to shed anymore for the man that he once loved. Naruto quickly pushed his chair back making a loud screech, he walked from his seat and tackled Sakura in hug. Her hands still covering her face she cried in the comfort of her friend, Naruto listened to her little sobs as his heart broke.

A few moments passed and Sakura had run out of tears, still in the arms of Naruto she whispered  "Naruto? I'm ok." Naruto cleared his throat as he lets go of her, Sakura notices that her friend had red eyes and tear stained marks on his cheeks. A sad smile spread on her lips as she caressed his  face "Hey, thank you for coming over to talk to me." She said. "Of course. I'm always going to be here for you you know that right?" He sniffles and Sakura pats his head, he towered over her so she had to stand on her toes to pat his blonde hair. "Your a great friend and a wonderful person. Anyone would be lucky to have you, I am not worth your love. But she does, you know who I'm talking about." Sakura smiled. Naruto's cheeks tinted red as he looks away "I know. After all these years, I didn't realise my feelings for her. But I'm confident now." He let's go of Sakura as he walked over to the balcony leaning over the rails.

"Thank you. For loving me." Sakura joined him, she glanced at him and he threw his trademark smirk to her and Sakura scoffs "I love you Sakura." He mumbles and her heart warmed at the affection from her friend "I love you too Naruto. But I wouldn't want you loving someone who's a mess." She chuckles as a breeze brush past the two, the wind  blew through her pink tresses  as she looked out into the horizon "You aren't a mess. You just need someone to love you equally." He said "You know what, maybe I should. How about Sasori-"

"Anyone that isn't a member of the Akatsuki." Naruto points "I don't know Naruto. They have some fine men in their group. Especially the eldest Uchiha." Sakura teased and Naruto fumed as he gave her lecture about being in a relationship with a criminal.

"Message for Haruno from Lady Hokage!" One of the messengers appeared beside the two, Sakura nods as he turned to hear her message "She requests for you." He said as he knelt down "Ok, I'll be there." Sakura said as the messenger disappeared.

"Naruto, duty calls." Sakura smiled as she clamped her hands on his shoulders and started to hurry him  out the door "Hey, I just wanted to say that his  wedding is in two days. I won't go if you don't. " Naruto looked behind his shoulder. Sakura stopped for a brief moment and continued to  push him out "Alright, Alright. Thank you but as his....friends we have to support him.

"But-"

"Goodbye Naruto." 

She closed the door, a moment of silence she leaned her head against the door, a tear slid down her cheeks. Sakura made her way towards the Hokage tower, the thought of the love of her life getting married to someone that wasn't her killed was eating her, she felt fresh tears stinging and she wiped at her eyes quickly annoyed at her feelings for the Uchiha.

 "Jeez! Why did I have to be in love with that prick? Can't I be happy? Can't I love someone without hurting me?" She questioned.

 "Stupid emotions-"

"I'm not sending anyone else for this  mission! It's too difficult. I need you guys to escort her to  her destination. She posses a few skills but she's still young." Sakura overheard Lady Tsunade explained. Peeking through the crack noticed Kakashi, Jiraya  and Guy sensei. Hmm? I can see why the mission is difficult if she's sending the village's strongest ninjas.

'What are they talking about ? Sakura thought as she leaned closer to the door  "Tsunade, I know this is important but I had already told you that I'm leaving for a few months with Hanare." Kakashi said as he folded his arms.

"Jiraya? What about you?" Tsunade looked at Jiraya "Sorry babe,  I was called to the sand village." Jiraya winks to which Tsunade felt a vein popping on his forehead. Everyone bickered back and forth about the mission. Sakura  giggled at the group of adults fighting inside. An idea popped in her head, this was a bad idea. All rational thinking in her head was completely thrown out the window, and before she knew it she pushed the door open. "Sakura?" Tsunade looked at her apprentice surprised.

"Lady Tsunade, I'm sorry to eavesdrop on your conversation but please let me do this mission" Sakura bowed. "Please lady Tsunade I beg of you give me this mission." Sakura begged. The room went quiet, Kakashi blinked surprised at his student's action,  Jiraya and Guy were impressed by the young Haruno.

"Sakura, this mission. It's abit difficult.  I know that you can handle it but-"

 "Lady Tsunade I want this mission! I need to.... I must." Sakura was at loss for words, why couldn't she speak? Her eyes  darted across the floor, racking her brains for something to say.

Sakura felt a hand on her shoulders "Alright. I see. But you need at least two more people with you. I like to keep this mission private, no one must know." Tsunade smiled at her. "Of course Lady Tsunade!" Sakura bows again.

"You'll be leaving in two days." Tsunade walked back to her desk as she sat down "Thank you!" Sakura beamed before she quickly leaves. "Sakura has gotten stronger behind my back." Kakashi commented "She has. Because she learnt from the best." Tsunade added.
