"Hey Noel wake up." I wake up and see Nikki all dressed. I groan. "Dad's here to pick us up." She says. I get up and search my closet for an extra backpack. I found one and stuffed boxers, t-shirts, jeans, swimming trunks, and toothbrush inside of it. I changed into an undershirt and a zip-up sweater on top. I kept my sweatpants on. I slipped on my converse, grabbed my phone then went downstairs.
I see my dad sitting at the table talking to my mom. Nikki was texting on her iPad. I went over to the table and kissed my mom on the cheek. "Morning, mom." I said. "Good morning, sweetie." She said.
I looked at my dad. He was wearing a plain white shirt and jeans. "Good morning Noel." He said. I ignored him, then my mom elbowed my stomach. "Morning." I blurted out.
"Well it was nice seeing you Jane. I'll bring them back, Sunday evening." He said. I grab an apple and say bye to my mom. Nikki and eye started walking to his car. I sat in the back and Nikki sat in the front.
It was silent until Nikki spoke. "So dad, where you've been?" She asks.
"Well Nikki, I've been really busy with work. But not anymore. I wanna get to know you and you're brother." He says.
We pull up at a wide driveway. Nikki jumps out of the car first. "Woah, this house is big!" She says. It was true dad's house was really big. It reminded me of Alex's house.
We went inside. I saw 1 girl and 1 guy sitting on the couch. And 1 lady in the kitchen. "Hey guys!" Yelled my dad.
"Daddy!" Said the little girl running up to him. Then it hit me. He left because he had another family. I gulped and my hands turned into fists.
"Okay everyone on the round couch!" My dad yelled. A lady in her early 50s came out of the kitchen. She had light brown hair and was wearing a spring dress. A girl who looked 20 came down. The boy and girl were already sitting on the couch. Nikki and I sat on the other side of the couch.
"I want everyone to introduce themselves to the new family members." He said. The lady in her 50s started. "Hi kids, I'm Teresa. I'm your step mom."
Then the girl who looked 20 went next. "I'm Jaclyn, your older step sister."
"I'm Mike, short for Michael. Step brother." He was about my age.
"Hiiiii! I'm Irene and I'm 6!" She was my younger step sister.
"Woof! Woof!" A dog came out from the basement. "And that's Tucker." Said Irene.
Nikki went up next. "Heyo, I'm Nikki. You can call me Niks."
Then it was my turn. I just stared. I didn't want to be here. I didn't want to know my dad or my other family. But I had to, for my mom. "I'm Noel." That's all I said. I didn't say anything else.
Then I look straight to my dad. "Mary!" My dad called a lady into the room. The lady was wearing an apron and holding a feather duster. "This is Mary our maid. Mary can you show Noel and Nikki to their room. She nodded.
I picked up my bag and started following Mary upstairs. Halfway up the stairs I could hear dad yelling about behaving in front of us and to treat us like family.
Mary showed Nikki her room first. "Ms. Nikki here is your room." Mary said in her Spanish accent. Her room had lilac painted walls with a normal sized bed, with a fuzzy carpet. She even had her own bathroom.
Nikki went inside and I followed Mary to my room. "Mr. Noel Moro, is yours." I went inside my room. It had dark blue walls with posters of my favourite basketball players. My bed had bright red sheets on it. I put down my bag and started unpacking.
"Kids come down! We're going swimming!" I changed into some swimming trunks, grabbed a towel, and my phone. Then head downstairs. We go outside to the backyard and everyone starts getting the not the pool. I walk up to my dad. "Hey dad, what the wifi password?" I ask.
"Oh come on Noel. This I family time! Have some fun, no phones." He said. Before I could say something he pulled me into the pool WITH MY PHONE!
"DAD WHAT THE HELL?! YOU TOTALLY SOAKED MY PHONE!" Before my dad could apologize I jumped out of the pool and went inside. I ran upstairs into my room and just laid in bed drying my phone. Whenever I tried to push the power button or the home screen I t wouldn't turn on. I even put it in a bowl of rice. Didn't do anything. My phone was useless.
*knock knock* my dad opens the door and comes in. "Noel, I'm really sorry about your phone." I stayed silent. "If you want maybe tomorrow we can go buy a new one?" I looked at him then nodded. "Okay then let's go downstairs for dinner, everyone's waiting."
We went downstairs and to the dining area. I sat in between Nikki and Michael. Everyone started to dig in, but the whole dinner was silent.
I looked at the time 8:01pm. I decided to get out of the house for a while. "Dad, can I borrow the car?" I asked. "Sure, where you going?"
"To one of my friend's house." I lied. He handed me the keys and I walked over to the car. I drove over to a nearby park. It had a bridge and a beautiful waterfall. I got out of the car and started walking to the bridge. I saw someone else. The person was in a camouflage jacket and jeans.
"Noel?" Said the person. I backed up a bit. "How do you know who I am?" I ask. She faces me so I can see her face. "It's me, dickhead." Said Alex.
"What are you doing here?" I ask. She's looks back at the waterfall. "This is the place where I met my one true love. At least I thought he was... he just used me." She punched the metal bridge. I gulped. "I should get going.." She said before walking away to her motorcycle.
I was alone watching the waterfall.
