Lucy loved working at her part-time job in her small town-the local bookstore was filled with the scent of coffee, old pages, and dusty atlases. She loved the regular customers; their wit and charm, the sound of chit chat and fangirling, the occasional author who visited for a signing. The harmonious piano that would be played by the store's owner, Levy, everyday. The quietness and quaintness of the job was what made it the best for her.
However, it was one particular worker that was pissing her off but made her love him at the same time.
Gray, the pale skinned, dark, spiky haired male had just joined the staff. She had no absolutely no idea where he had come from . . . he was just sort of there.
The things she hated about him:
-He sometimes came into the shop with no shirt on, even though it was December.
-He would always doze and slack off.
-He always blasted music off his phone.
The things she loved about him:
-Those abs were hella fine, not gonna lie.
-He kind of looked a bit cute when he slept.
-He would always blast her favorite songs.
And that's what annoyed her most about Gray-it made it hard for her to hate him.
She would always afford to get a chance to pretend she was reading a manga, when in actuality she was trying to watch Gray without seeming like a crazy stalker. As she peeked out her head from the pages and to the cash register next to her, she watched intently as Gray slowly rocked his head to all of her favorite bands-Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Atlas Genius, Walk Two Moons, Arctic Monkeys, and Marianas Trench.
Just as she was about to actually do her job, Reality Check by Abandoning Sunday suddenly played, and the familiar acoustic tone and beautiful voice of Michael Thomas flowed into the blonde's ears, and her heart started to blossom with recognition, all the hairs on her arms rising.
She determinedly put down the manga, forced her eyes to follow Gray's path, and walked directly towards him. Taking a deep breath, she tapped his shoulder.
"I just wanted to say you should turn down your music next time, no matter how much other people like it," Lucy said. She had actually never gotten this close to Gray before, so it felt weird to smell his breath that smelled like black coffee, or the cologne drifting from his chest. She tried to let her expression remain neutral, but it seemed impossible considering how much of an affect Gray had on her.
