Give me love like never before,
'Cause lately I've been craving more,
And it's been a while but I still feel the same,
Maybe I should let you go,
~ Ed Sheeran, Give Me Love
The large, airy room was filled only by the nearly silent hum of music. The roughly glued together pieces of a girl were disguised by politness as she lay across the quilt overtop the bed. The earbuds inside her ears blared the song Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran. She finally decided to give his songs a listen after Tessa had practically begged her to. She thought he was overrated at first but there was nothing to criticsize here. Her fingers fiddled absentmindely with the white cord connecting the speakers to her ipod.
Give me love like never before,
'Cause lately I've been craving more
Sophie had no choice but to agree at this point. She'd been left scarred after the incident and she wanting nothing more than to just be a regular girl again. Before it happened she could remember, even at a young age, attracting the attention of boys. The amount of valentines she'd received in her elementary years was actually quite ridiculous considering she'd thought boys had cooties at the time. It was different now; if someone had given her a valentine now she would think of the gesture as a cruel joke, meant to ridicule her. Even if it did prove genuine...well, to be honest, she couldn't picture that. She knew now that she was worth more than the sum of her parts but time and time again she was fooled into believing people were better than they actually were. It wasn't going to happen again. She was more careful now -more guarded and it would take a lot to break her exterior wall of emotion.
Or so she thought.
Across town a plane touched down to earth releasing its occupants including a creamy, sandy-haired young man. His stormy grey-green eyes contrasted against the night lights as he strolled down a carpeted hallway. Rounding the bend, he saw two familiar figures. His younger brother and his father. His brother was the first to step forwards with his arms extended. Gideon returned the brotherly hug, embracing his brother tight. It was good to see that Gabriel still held some childhood joy. Gideon peeked over his brother's shoulder (boy, had he gone through a growth spurt) and watched his father. His father, the dignified Benedict Lightwood, eyed the pair with disgust as if their hug was completely uncalled for after not seeing one another for a year.
Gabriel broke apart from Gideon, oblivious to their father's contempt, and asked, "How was Spain?" He didn't miss the subtle notes in Gabriel's tone that were hoping he had missed him. In that moment, Gideon made a pact with himself to rescue his brother before he got pulled into the clockwork of his father's wrongdoings. "It was great, Absolutely great. But I'm glad to be back." Gideon finished with a heartfelt smile directed at his brother. The grin didn't escape his father's gaze and he saw Gabriel suddenly become aware of his father's eery calmness.
He watched as Gabriel collected his happiness, pocketed it, and tried to model his father's stance. "Very well," Gabriel said.
Very well indeed, thought Gideon, very well.
Give a little time to me or burn this out,
We'll play hide and seek to turn this around,
All I want is the taste that your lips allow,
My, my, my, my, oh give me love,
A/N: So it's summer and I've finally had enough inspiration to get back to this story. I've planned it out and this story will have roughly 11 chapters (including a prologue and epilogue). It is quite similiar to the original version of this story but there are some notable differences. I'll update whenever. Hope you enjoy! :)
