I watched as she ran out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Then walked over to the bed, suddenly feeling dizzy. “What have I done?”I thought to myself. As much as it killed me to admit, I loved that girl. I wanted to help her, give her a real home, a real family. But how would she forgive me? And what about the darkness? I couldn't let her be exposed to it. It would just make things worse. But I didn't have a choice. Tears began dripping down my face as I thought of what could happen tonight.

When it came to be time for the lockdown, I changed into all black and went back by Nick. I told him about my fight with Zak, but he said not to worry about it.

We all carried the equipment onto the boat that would take us to Poveglia. I hated the boat ride. When we got there, Zak put on his camera face and did his normal intro that he does before a lockdown. I helped Aaron carry the equipment into base.

When base was set up, Aaron showed me how to use the camera and a digital recorder. I was also in charge of carrying the SB7 Spirit Box, a Mel-meter, and one of the x-cams.

We walked around doing an open investigation for about an hour. Then Aaron and I went around and set up all the x-cameras. When we met up with Nick and Zak again, we went to the room where last time they were here, Zak was possessed.

“Is anyone here?”asked Zak. “Do you remember me?.....What do you wanna do to me?.....Who do you wanna speak to?”

It was silent. “Let's do a spirit box session. Crimson, give me the SB7,”said Zak.

I gave it to him. He started asking questions. We were getting intelligent responses. All of a sudden, I felt really dizzy and nauseous.

“Hey guys? I don't feel so good all of a sudden.”

“Like what?” asked Nick.

“Really dizzy and nauseous.”

Then I heard a deep, demonic voice say in my ear, “DIE”

After that, I passed out.

I looked back just in time to see her fall to the ground. I raced over, feeling grief like never before.

“Crimson? Come on sweetie, wake up.” I said as I shook her, trying to wake her up. “Nick, take her outside. Aaron, help me grab all the equipment.”

“We're leaving,” Aaron asked.

“What the hell do you think? It was a huge fucking mistake to come back here!”

“Okay bro, calm down.”

Aaron went to pack up all the smaller equipment while I ran around getting all the x-cams. All the time I was praying, “God, don't let her die, don't let this thing do this to her.”

*******

I woke up outside, by the water, with my head on Nick's lap. “What happened?” I croaked.

“You said you felt really light headed and nauseous. Then you just passed out,” replied Aaron.

“There was a voice. It told me to die.” I then realized Zak wasn't there. “ Where's Zak?”

“He went inside to get the x-cams. We're stopping the investigation,” said Nick.

“Why?”

“It's too dangerous. He doesn't want to risk our safety. A boat will be here in a few minutes to take us back to the main island.”

I tried sitting up, but immediately stopped because it made me dizzy again. I fell back onto Nick's lap.

“Don't do that, you might make it worse,” he said.

Just then, Zak came out of the building with four x-cams in hand. He gave them to Aaron and told him to put them in the cases. Then he came over to me.

“I'm so sorry,” he said with a hurt look on his face. “I should have never brought you here. I wasn't thinking. This is all my fault.”

“It's OK Zak.”

“No, it's not OK. I put your life in danger. That thing could have killed you.”A tear ran down his face.

“But it didn't. I'll be fine. Stop worrying about me,” I said as I wiped the tear off his face.

“I'll never be able to forgive myself.”

“That may be true, but I forgive you.”

He smiled. “Thank you. Here, this will help ward off anything that may be attached to you.” He grabbed a small container of blessed oil and put some on his finger. Then he made the sign of the cross on my forehead while saying, “Father, please rid her of all evil spirits in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

Just then a boat came into view. Nick carefully laid my head down on the ground. All three of them loaded the equipment onto the boat as quickly as possible. Then Zak came over, picked me up, and carried me onto the boat. I stayed in his arms the whole trip.

When we got back to the hotel, he told Nick and Aaron to unload the equipment. He carried me up to our room. He set me down on my bed.

“I'm so sorry Crimson. I'm sorry for yelling at you, I'm sorry for being mad at you, I'm sorry for everything.”

“I already told you, you're forgiven.”

“I know, but it hurts like hell to see you like this. Knowing it's my fault. It nearly kills me.”

“Let me tell you something Zak. I have survived whippings, beatings, and an attempted murder. I have been basically a slave for most of my life. I am a fighter. If I can survive that, I can survive this.”

He looked at me. Studied the scars on my face and arms. He looked like the grieving man again. “Crimson, can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“Will you let me adopt you?”

I was shocked. But this time I knew he was really serious.“Yes. But only if you promise me that you will forgive yourself for what happened tonight.”

He smiled. “If that's what it takes.”

“Good.”

He wrapped me in his arms. “I can't let you live in that hellish place anymore.”

I fell asleep in his arms, finally feeling loved.

As she slept in my arms, all I could do was smile. Now she was safe from the evil, and I would be able to save her from the hell that she lives in. I thanked God for this night, then fell asleep in peace.
