2036A Point of View.
Our last assignment was to introduce ourselves and tell about a traumatic experience. I guess to show growth or something. The graduating class was twenty people so everyone had a turn.
I took my place at the center of the stage and gazed at the audience briefly. They gave me their attention.
"Hi.. My story is about my father. When I was seven years old I lost my dad. It's the most heart breaking memory I have. Fourteen years later and it's still hard to think about. I remember the last minutes I spent with him and how bad he looked. Although I was a hopeful child I knew that he was slipping away. And that night, he did." I took a moment to calm down and looked into the audience.
I saw my mom silently cheering me on. Jake sat beside her and smiled at me.
"I felt like it was my fault and cried myself to sleep. If my dad would leave me then I must be a bad person, right? All of it must be my fault. But it turns out that it wasn't." The slight commotion distracted me and I looked up in it's direction. I looked at my mom and she shook her head with that blank look. The late people made their way to their seats. One in particular smiled brightly at me. I smiled back and continued.
"The next morning I found out that my dad made it through his surgery. I remember being so overwhelmed that I just started crying and I couldn't stop. Later that day I saw him again and he still looked all old and gross." The crowd laughed as I tried not to make a face at that. I could feel a glare through the laughing and I had to smile.
"But he look didn't look so sad anymore. He got a chance to live again and I found out that it was because of my mom." The audience 'aww'd' and I heard someone cosign in there.
"The doctor didn't perform his surgery the right way and that's how they lost him. The second doctor backtracked and did it the way my mom suggested. And that's how he survived. My mom saved my dad's life and mine too." I smiled slightly and said a small conclusion. I looked out to my parents and smiled.
"I'm Kassidy Carangi and I am class of 2036." I took a bow and sat with the other graduates.
After the last story we received our diplomas. I crossed the stage with a roaring cheer from everyone.
We turned our tassels and threw our caps in the air. Since the graduation was held outside a few balloons were released as well as fireworks for some reason.
