"You're serious?" Carter asked for what felt like the billionth time. We were in the parking lot outside the school, both sitting on his dropped down tailgate. I was looking at my bright yellow flipflops, hoping that the truck wouldn't get my white capri's dirty. I looked up at my best friend, and the butterflies in my stomach immediately errupted when his gorgeous brown eyes looked into my hazel ones. He cracked a smile at me, and his eyes twinkled with the excitement of what will come this weekend.
"For the last time, Carter, yes I'm serious!" I squeeled. "You're coming right?"
"Hell yeah I'm coming." He smiled and held up his hand for a high five. I slapped his hand with mine right as the first bell rang. We decided on my party being on Friday, which happens to be tomorrow, and Carter promised to help me go buy everything we need for it after school today with the money my mom gave me. She's leaving tomorrow morning but I probably won't see her tonight. Carter and I got up off the back of his truck and he shut his tailgate.
"See you in PE?" Carter asked.
"Nope. You know me, I'm ditching like I always do." I said sarcastically. I don't think I could ever skip class, I think it would physically pain me.
"Alrighty, you rebel. I'll see you in an hour." He laughed and walked towards his English class.
I shook my head and started walking in the opposite direction towards my class. That boy, sometimes, I swear.
---
History was pretty boring. All I could think about was this weekend and the party. My teacher was lecturing on something, but I couldn't seem to get my brain to focus. Just when I started to take notes, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I took it out to see a text from Carter.
Hey K. Miss me yet?
I grinned.
You wish, loser. Truth was, though, I really did. But I wasn't going to let him know that.
"Mackenzie? Would you like to share with the class what is so much more important than my lecture?"
I jumped up in the air when I heard Mr. Patrick's voice. My eyes went wide and my face turned bright red.
"I-I'm sorry Mr. P. Won't happen again I swear."
He smiled and chuckled. "Good. You haven't given me problems before, so keep it that way." He looked around the room at the other students, "Now where was I...."
I breathed out a sigh of relief and put my phone away. No way was I gonna get in trouble the day before my party. I know for a fact Amanda would change her mind if she found out I got detention or something.---
At lunch me, Tiffany, and Stephanie were all hanging out on the grass, gossiping about the latest school drama, when Carter came over and sat down beside me.
"Hey best friend!" He said with so much enthusiasm I couldn't help but laugh.
"What's up?" I looked around and frowned. "Won't you get banished to the couch if she-who-shall-not-be-named sees you with us?" He doesn't usually hang out with us at lunch because his girlfriend would murder him if he did anything but cater to her every need, especially if that meant he was sitting with us.
"Ha Ha. Britaney isn't here today. She decided to ditch and go shopping instead. Sooooo, I thought I'd chill with my favorite little juniors!"
"Oh please, you're only a year older than us, don't feel so high-and-mighty." Stephanie snarked, sticking her tongue out in Carter's direction.
"That one stung a little, ol' cousin of mine." Carter playfully shot back at her.
"Okay guys, enough with the family face off, can we please enjoy our lunch now?" I laughed.
