The Reason

Red and green everything
Santas fill the town
Porcelain baubles gently adorn fake firs
As shouts of "Merry Christmas!" float around.

Colorful lights decorate shops
Icicles set the scene
While children with glowing faces
Set their sights on toys that gleam

This is commercial Christmas
With partridges and golden rings
Far off in the gift-wrapped distance
You hear smiling carolers sing

But if you travel farther away from the city
Leaving cheesy elves and gingerbread behind
You enter a world of calm and quiet
And silence settles your frenzied mind

As you stand beneath the evergreens The world is whisked away
The snowflakes resting on your eyelashes
Make you desperately want to stay

This is natural Christmas
With untouched alabaster snow
You can feel the surrounding stillness
And if given a choice, you'd never go.

But if you want to really feel Christmas
You have to forget about the cold
Forget about the presents and the parties
And remember the One who saved the world

Because far away from luxury or societal importance
Was a scene of wondrous light
In a lowly stable stall long ago
Christ was born on a holy night

With choruses of praise
The heavens, it seemed,
Swelled with unspeakable joy
Mankind was redeemed!

It was an unforgettable moment
A chance at eternal salvation!
The Savior loved us enough to come to Earth-
Our spirits shouted with acclamation

This is real Christmas
When a child was conceived
He is the reason for the season
The greatest gift we could ever receive

There's nothing wrong with gift giving
Or anything sinful about reindeer
But those are not the most important
The true meaning of Christmas should be clear

As the Christmas season envelops you
Please lovingly remember
That Jesus Christ should be the focus
The perfect baby who brightened the world forever
