Chapter 3
That first day that I walked in the school holding Darrell's hand was strange. The stares we got were strange. I don't know why it felt comfortable but it just did. Once we were in the building Darrell pulled me behind the staircase and kissed me real quickly on my lips.
“I can't do this Martin” He whispered, “I'm only out to a few of my friends and I don't want to face the whole school yet.” He looked at me with apologetic eyes.
I smiled at him, “Ok, I was getting a little nervous too” I chuckled softly and turned to walk away. Darrell grabbed me back to him.
“One more kiss before you leave.” he pulled me and pecked me quickly. “See you at lunch”
To my surprise nobody commented about how me and Darrell entered the school building, I guess the rest of the world was too busy minding their own business for a change to notice the gay boy and the newly gay boy holding hands and making out.
I sat in my English class daydreaming about how close I was to Darrell the night before. Then I suddenly realized, I had been hugging and kissing a boy. Me kiss a boy. I chuckled and the kid in front of me turned and gave me a strange look. “Sorry man” I whispered.
English class took forever an hour of boring Shakespeare, reading out loud, to be or not to be blah, blah, blah. I was excited for so many reasons when the bell rang. The biggest reason was now I only had three more classes to sit through before I got to gaze in Darrell's eyes and the second reason was the next class was math and I got to talk to Charlotte.
As I left out English class Joe was standing next to my locker. I rolled my eyes as I walked up to him. I really didn't want to deal with Darrell's ex.
“Hey Martin!” Joe said in his annoying whiny voice.
“Joe.” I replied not looking at him. This kid wasn't good looking in my book, I just don't see what could have appealed to Darrell about him.
“I saw you with Darrell, Aren't you straight?” He questioned me, but I just continued opening up my locker and getting my things out.
“Darrell likes sex, you may be good enough to hold his hand and kiss him, but are you ready for that?” he asked, “Stop pretending with him, you are both just going to hurt each other.” he then turned and walked away. I turned and watched him and at the end of the hall I saw Darrell staring down at me. I just slammed my locker closed and walked to my math class.
I was so happy to see Charlotte. “Hey Char guess where I stayed last night?” I whispered to her luckily she sat right next to me and luckily we had a substitute who handed out tons of paperwork. The whole class was loud and rowdy while the sub just read the newspaper.
“Ahh...let me guess you spent the whole night in the arms of loverboy.” She teased and made kissing sounds.
“How did you know?”
“Darrell and I are almost as close as you and him are remember, he sent me a text in the middle of the night letting me know you were in bed beside him. He said you purr like a kitten in your sleep.”
“I do not!” I tried to deny it.
“Loverboy said you do. He is so hooked on you.” She started making kissing sounds again. “I am so happy for the two of you. I hope you guys don't mess this up.”
“I'm a little worried about what I am supposed to do with him Char.” I confessed a little ashamed.
“What do you mean?”
