We sit in agony as the phone rings. Lucy paces back and forth as James and I sit on the couch. Everything seems to be moving in slow motion as we wait and wait. The ringing stops.

"Hello?" A raspy voice calls into the phone from the other line. Lucy's pacing stops and we all stare at the phone.

"Royal?" James asks.

"James? Is that actually you?" Royal asks in disbelief. Lucy rolls her eyes.

"Yeah its me. Lucy and Aerilyn are here too." James says without expression.

"Hi Royal," I say while Lucy remains silent.

"Oh my god, hi girls!" James says and I can hear the smile in his voice. I picture his friendly smile and a sense of happiness runs through me.

"Look, Royal, we have a problem," James says jumping right into it. Royal doesn't say anything suggesting James should continue. "There's an Aloevero here." Silence.

"I'm coming," Royal says after contemplating what to do. Lucy heaves in a deep breath before sighing loudly. Her lips are pressed firmly in a straight line and she shakes her head.

"You can't just waltz back into our lives and pretend like everything is okay, Royal, life doesn't work like that," Lucy says her voice beginning to raise again.

"I don't want to fight with you Lucy, I want to be there for you all and help you." Lucy rolls her eyes at Royal's words.

"Bullshit," she mutters.

"Okay," James says loudly in order to end the potential fight between Royal and Lucy. "Okay. Royal come here as soon as possible. Lucy don't say a word." And with that he ended the call. Lucy opens her mouth to protest but realizes to save her breath and keep her mouth shut.

James is always the one to end the family feuds despite him being the jokester. He always knows what to say and do in order to fix everything. That especially came in handy once our parents died. He took care of us, protected us and made us feel like everything would be okay.

1909 was the worst year of my long, never ending life. The Aloeveros succeeded in what they had been attempting ever since they turned my mother and father in 1698. They killed them.

Witches punished the Aloeveros by turning them into blood-sucking, immortal freaks of nature. The Aloeveros massacred hundreds of witches in despite of anything supernatural. Obviously this immensely pissed off the witches, so in order to get revenge they turned them into supernatural beings themselves. The Aloeveros were devastated and unfamiliar with the indescribable lust for blood.

Kristo and Voula Aloevero were the first vampires to walk this planet. Due to the fact that their children were so young, they waited until they had their own children to turn them in order to keep the family going. This process succeed for many generations bringing many vampires to the earth.

My parents were good friends with Kristo and Voula back then. But one night they turned my parents. None of us understood what was happening. My parents were the first people to be turned by Kristo and Voula. The Aloeveras claimed it was an accident, but my parents never really liked to talk about what happened. They were finally accepting what they were and told us constantly that everything would be okay. We believed them, being young and naive. But everything changed four years later in 1702.

Kristo turned Royal. My parents were devastated, but Royal assured them he would be perfectly fine. My mom couldn't accept the fact that she would be living a never ending life without her four other children. My parents agreed that the best thing to do was turn all of us. Later that year my parents turned Lucy, James, Sofea and me all at the same time. Lucy was 21, James was 19, and I was 18. We couldn't have picked a better age to be turned at.

Sofea on the other hand was only 11 when my parents turned her. She died during transition. My parents couldn't deal with the guilt as they knew too late that they should have waited until she was older. Her body couldn't handle the new vampire qualities. Sofea's death was horrible, but unfortunately children dying in 1702 wasn't extremely rare.

"Aerilyn!" Lucy's annoying voice brings me back from deep thought.

"What?" I groan bringing my eyes back into focus after realizing I had zoned out.

"Go back to school," she says standing in front of me. This catches both James and me off guard.

"Lucy, what are you talking about," James asks before I can. I look up at her awaiting an explanation.

"He knows you're here, so you might as well find out anything else you can. Follow him around. You're a lot older than he is, but still be careful," She reasons.

"Please tell me you aren't referring to the Aloevero boy," I beg. 20 minutes ago she was pissed he saw me and now she wants me to follow him.

"That's exactly who," she smirks clapping her hands together. This is not going to end well.
