River knew this was coming, it had been for a while really.
She had always stolen things before, it was the way she survived, sure she worked.
But working for a dwarf in a bakery wasn't really the best salary.
River huffed as she dashed down the streets, the city she lived in was called Natantis, it floated high above the thick forest thousands of feet below. The normal mount was hippogriffs, griffins being much to wild to tame. River however had never seen eye-to-eye with hippogriffs, they were to needy and would stop in the middle of a flight and nest on a nearby flutter, which is what they call floating islands which are not lived in.
River knew better than to turn her head back to view her pursuers, the guards came after her every time she broke a rule. Which, needless to say, happened often. The pounding of the guard's footsteps were like hoof-beats of a centaur, compared to River, who moved quietly.
She then saw a cart of a fruit-seller, the owner looking shell-shocked. River then ran towards it, jumping off the top of the cart she launched herself at the low-hanging roof of the house behind her. Grappling it with her calloused fingers she expertly got herself on the blue tiled roof and started running. The guards hesitating, not knowing what to do. She grinned and continued, she regained hope as she saw the stables ahead.
River landed nimbly, similar to a two-tails ( a two tailed cat, acts the exact same as a normal cat, along with the same size, except they control fire at will. ) River then slammed the door open, hearing the satisfying thud of the door hitting the outer wall. She saw the dozens of hippogriffs, a few griffins and some magic carpets lying along the far wall, in a wooden rack. Then, River saw who she was looking for, a large grey saber-tooth tiger, not rare, but somewhat unlikely to be tamed.
"Nix! Here girl!" River called enthusiastically, her long, waist length light blue hair swaying in it's ponytail.
Nix's ears perked up, she was large, the size of a large horse. She then growled happily and dashed over, kneeling down to allow River to climb onto her back. River jumped up on to the saddle, which was fashioned more like a harness than a horse saddle.
River's blue eyes shone in excitement, so sue her, she is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. River grinned wolfishly "Here we go!" she called out as Nix's eyes glowed with freedom as they took off, out of the stable and over the guards,
And they disappeared into the night, their hearts soaring with freedom.
A/N: If you can't imagine the city, look at the cover ;D
Also ( though self explanatory ) Nix's picture in the media up top ^
