“So he’s always like that?” I asked, staring at Natsu curiously, who was apparently got extremely motion sick.

“Yeah, he’s not strong enough to get over it.” Gray taunted him, an evil smirk on his face.

“Agh, why you-!” Natsu held his mouth as he gagged, rolling to the side of the carriage and hit it with a loud thump. Lucy let out a hearty laugh as she watched the two bicker aimlessly, making Erza shout back from the front of the carriage for them to stop fighting or she’d come back here.

I watched the group with a smile on my face, trying to seem oblivious to the obvious bond that the group already had. No matter how much I tried to ignore it, I couldn’t help but think that I’d always be missing out on the jokes and the laughs…

“So, can you tell us about you?” Lucy questioned, crossing her legs and leaning forward. I came out of my haze and tried to think of a way to answer the question but not give too much away.

“Uhm, like what?” I asked, shrugging hopelessly.

“Healing… magic…!” Natsu spewed out before losing himself to the motion sickness again. I figured that would come up, it was an extremely rare magic now-a-days, and anyone that possessed the ability to use it was well known in the magic community.

“There’s nothing too special with me being able to use it… I was just born with the ability to do it.” I admitted, looking out the back end of the carriage and hoping they wouldn’t ask many more questions.

“Well if you didn’t belong to a guild until now, how did you afford such a nice place?” Gray asked, slipping off his shirt in an extremely casual manor. I looked towards the front end of the carriage, where Master was leaning over the bar that separated us from Erza, waiting for my answer.

“I traveled from place to place offering my magic to any guild that needed it.” I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, going over the large list of guild’s I’ve worked for throughout the years, some of them not very good guilds either.

“We’ve hired her before, Gray.” Master teased, causing Gray to turn red and whip his head the other way defiantly. “She does most of the fixing up when you guys go overboard in towns and on each other.” He sighed, shaking his head. “So much money…” Master mumbled, turning back towards the road and sitting down next to Erza.

“Oh,” I looked at Natsu, who was still out of commission. “What happened to him?” A few confused stares came my way. “I mean, why did he come to me in the first place?” The group looked to Gray, who ignored the stares.

“He was probably fighting with Gray… It happens a lot.” Lucy’s head dropped, a shamed look on her face. That was good enough for me; I didn’t pry when it came to the conditions of my patients, that wasn’t my job.

“So,” Gray looked back towards me, ignoring the previous question, “what’s with the mask?” I brushed my hand against my mask, thinking of a gentle way of putting it.

“Before I started to develop an anesthesia, I would use a strong painkiller, but with some surgeries that wasn’t enough.” I picked at my shirt nervously. “One guy ended up not surviving the surgery, and the guild was furious…” I trailed off, hoping they’d put the pieces together themselves.

“Then what?” Natsu asked, sitting up like a normal person. Looking around, I noticed we’d finally stopped, but everyone was waiting for my response before getting out of the carriage.

“They attacked me, that’s all.” I said coldly, looking away. “I still haven’t developed a way to fix scars, so I wear a mask to hide it.” Natsu jumped around me, trying to get a look into my mask even though it was firmly against my face.

The group was loud as we walked towards the guild, Gray and Natsu fighting, Erza and Master talking about finances and such, and Lucy trying to separate the two boys. I walked along silently, listening in on the conversations but not trying to include myself.

“Natsuuuuuu!” A blue blob flew past me, causing my hair to whip forward and land in my eyes. Cursing, I looked for the blob so I could smack it.

“Happy!” Lucy called, holding out her arms happily, and the blob flew into her chest with a happy squeak. While it was stuck there, I noticed it was a little more than a blob… it was a cat… with wings? I stared at Happy with my jaw open, not entirely sure how I was supposed to react.

“I can’t believe you guys left me here!” Happy squealed, crying into Lucy’s chest dramatically. My brain finally processed what was going on, and I decided to take a look around while they had their reunion.

The guild house was the largest building in this town, and had the words ‘Fairy Tail’ across the top of the entrance. It had a small wall around too, nothing too fancy I suppose, but it was a change from my usual makeshift houses, since I traveled a lot. Maybe I’d get to live here for longer than I did any other place…

“Kira-chan!” Lucy called, waving her arm frantically in front of the doors. “Come meet the others!” Feeling myself smile, I joined Lucy in opening the large double doors and walking into the guild.

The inside of the guild looked like a large bar, with people drinking at every table, a few getting into fights over what their favorite alcohol is. I watched as Natsu and Gray went over to the bar in near the northern end of the building and started talking to a white haired girl, who welcomed them home with a smile.

Looking around, I saw a spotlight aimed at a single chair on stage, a microphone up in the air waiting to be used. I took a step towards it, narrowing my eyes in an attempt to hear or see anyone backstage.

“Hello! I’m Mirajane!” The white haired girl that was at the bar a few seconds ago popped in front of me, holding her hand out and smiling.

“K-Kira, pleased to meet you.” I shook her hand lightly, glancing back towards the stage curiously.

“Are you interested in singing?” Mirajane asked, clasping her hands behind her back and leaning in towards me, a perpetual smile on her face.

“I… uh…” She raised an eyebrow, clearly seeing right through me. “Yes, if that’s okay.” She nodded, moving to the side and pushing me up towards the stage.

“Listen up, everyone! Our new member, Kira, wants to sing a song!” My face grew bright red under my mask as the entire room looked at me expectantly. “Break a leg!” She whispered, jumping off the stage and returning to the bar. Taking a final deep breath, I closed my eyes a let the lyrics flow from my mouth.

“Mirror… tell me something… tell me who is the loneliest, of all?

Mirror, tell me something, tell me who is the loneliest of all?

Mirror, locked inside of me, tell me, can a heart be turned to stone?

Mirror, mirror, what’s that behind you?

Save me from the things I see…

I can keep it from the world, why won’t you let me hide from me?

Mirror, Mirror, tell me something, who’s the loneliest of them all?

… I’m the loneliest of them all…”
