The alarm goes off loudly into the dark and quiet night. We all rise from our bunk beds and immediately prepare for departure. Our Fire Chief Collins comes running into the room. His eyes are filled with panic.

"Alright everyone we just got a call about a warehouse on fire. It has four floors and there are still people on all four floors. Let's Go!" He commands us. We are all dressed and filing out after we learn the situation. We all run to the pole and slide down onto the ground floor. The three fire trucks are cranked and ready to go. We all get into the trucks, into our assigned spots. We listen again to the situation and we all close our eyes and pray. We pray for the victims and ourselves. We pray to be able to save everyone and get home safely.

I look over at the blonde next to me. She always manages to take my breath away. She has long curly blonde hair, warm forest green eyes, and a body to die for. And she has an ass, which is a plus, 'cause I'm a ass man. I reach for her hand and smile slightly. She turns to look at me and raises her eyebrows. I smirk at her puzzlement expression and raise her gloved hand to my lips. She smiles warmly at me and mouths the words "Everything will be ok." I nod my head at her and close my eyes briefly. She's the only one for me. There's no one else I'd rather spend my life with than her.

Next month we are going on vacation, at her persistence. She has something she wants to tell me. And I in return have something important to ask her. Oh, I can't wait. I brought the ring and now I just have to ask.... it shouldn't be too hard right?? I'm pulled from my thoughts as we reach our destination. The first floor was completely on fire. The other three were just filled with smoke... smoke.... and people hanging out the windows.

How could we reach all those people in time before the building collapsed?... Or worse before... before it exploded? After all, it is a chemical warehouse. I gasp as I stare at the sight before us. Lord please help us, I pray silently.

I sit up in my bed and wipe the sweat off my brow. The sweat and the tears... I try to calm down my breathing as I glance frantically around the room. I dream about that night often. That night when I lost so much, in a blink of an eye. So much. more than anybody knows. More than anyone could understand.

As always I'm running late thanks to my childish roommates. My God, they are twenty-eight and thirty-year-olds but they act like they are four years old... no wait scratch that, my kids act way better than that. I hit my horn in annoyance as a yellow Ford Mustang cuts in front of me. I can't afford to be late. I'm a pre-K teacher for Mercy Pre-K Academy and this is my second year there. I am very passionate about my job. These little kids need so much care and attention. I hope that I provide that for them. As well as a good learning environment.

Fifteen frantic minutes later, I arrived at school. I grab my bags out of my Toyota Tacoma truck and quickly head into the school. I make it to my classroom and luckily see no students or parents outside my door. I open the door and walk into the dark classroom. I put my bags on my desk and head to the blinds. I open them and let the sunlight into the room. I close my eyes and say a brief prayer. I'm a very sensitive person. I try to create a joyful, negative-free environment for my kids. Kids learn better if they feel safe and entertained. I try to provide both, why make school boring? Kids will be willing to come and learn if it's fun. I smile as a feeling of peacefulness settles into my classroom.... until I hear little feet running and whining enter my classroom. Here we go.

Whew thank goodness it's lunchtime, I'm starving. This morning I stopped at Hardee's and got two buttered biscuits and a Dr. Pepper. I was going to eat it when I got to school, but I got distracted by a crying student. Hazel was the youngest student in my class. She's three years old but will be turning four in three months. She's very talented and gifted and I suspect neglected. She's quiet, shy, reserved, and scared. She's everything a little girl shouldn't be. I walked over to her and asked her what was wrong. She didn't want to tell me. I had my teacher's assistant, Miss. Wells, take over for me. I picked up Hazel up and walked her to the teacher's lounge.

"What's wrong Hazel?" I asked her. She pointed to her tummy.

"Your tummy?" She nodded her head. "Does it hurt?" She nodded again. Tears poured out her beautiful hazel eyes, hence how she got her name. "What did you eat sweetie?" She cried some more. I reach into my pocket and pull out tissues. I cleaned her face. "What did you eat?" I asked her again. She silently shook her head. And that's when I understood. She hadn't eaten. So I gave her my breakfast except for the soda, I brought her some juice instead. She didn't need that caffeine but I did. I always wondered about her, From now on I'll observe her and document everything and see what I can do to help her.

"Did you check your emails today Ms. Clark?" I turn to my assistant and shake my head. I was happily eating my taco, in a whole nother world. I smile guiltily at her.

She laughs at me. "Ms. Clark you are worse than the children. "

I shake my head. " I agree with you. Was there anything interesting in the emails?" I ask cause I know she went through them. I'm glad she did, I hated sorting through bothersome emails. I would much rather be teaching and playing with my babies. Ms. Wells and I work well together. She tends to paperwork and I tend to the kids. It worked out well.

"Yes, there was." She dabbed her mouth with the napkin. I looked away from her when I heard a scream. I looked down the table to see Marco with his mouth hanging wide open, with food inside.

"Marco close your mouth!" I send him a glare. He looks at me quickly then ducks his head down in shame.

"As I was saying Ms. Clark, there was a reply from Mercy Fire Department. They said they would be honored to give us a tour anytime." I smile at this news. I have been waiting two whole months for this news. I had lost hope after one month. We had the bright idea to visit the fire station next month. Next month's learning topic was fire safety. Who would be better to teach us, than the firefighters? The kids will be thrilled once they find out where we are going.
