Evan could feel a warm liquid oozing down his side, his life slowly fading with each drop. A sudden jolt of pain hit him as he placed a finger inside the bullet hole that marred his side. He gritted his teeth, causing the veins on his neck to pop out. He fell back to the dusty wooden floor, his cries of pain muffled by his gritted teeth, and a mix of saliva and blood dripping down his lips. A gunshot wound, yes, he remembered now. He was shot earlier by police as he made his way back to the woods. Evan heaved a deep breath into his burning lungs, the pain was finally waning down into something he could muster.

"Evan," a voice uttered. Evan turned to the direction of the voice. It was Nami, "Thank God you're awake."

Nami wrapped her arms around his neck, he could feel her tears drop down to his neck.

"Yes Nami, I'm fine," Evan said, tapping her back. "But my wound is stinging, so can you please let go now?"

Nami fell back, half laughing as she wiped her tears away. Evan felt his heart twist as he watched Nami pretend that she didn't shed a tear. Although it seemed childish of her, Evan found it cute since the Nami of today was totally different to the Nami he first met. Nami was a female genie trapped inside a lamp he bought from a swap meet about five months ago. Back then, she was indifferent, unattached to anything. Maybe because she knew that most people would just all those wishes she offers selfishly and just forget about her. For centuries it had been always the same thing. Though Evan was different. Evan, even before he met her, already had the life he wanted; great family, great friends and an awesome school life. What more can he ask for? So what he did was he befriended the lonely genie and reintroduced her to the world that she had almost forgotten. Nami, in turn, showed Evan the personality she have long hidden from everyone she had ever met.

"Evan," Nami said, her green eyes fixed on his. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Evan laughed weakly, his body was already dying on him. He smiled, the last thing he wanted to do was worry Nami, "Like what?"

Nami's face reddened, making Evan laugh once more.

"You're mean," she pouted. Evan felt his heart skip a beat. Nami's black hair ran down to her shoulders, swaying as the cold evening wind swept upon her. Her olive skin seemed to glow and sparkle under the moonlight's shine.

"That, I am." he joked. He could feel the touch of death creeping up inside him, making Evan shiver. He knew what awaited him already, he knew he wouldn't last for more than an hour.

Now that everything seemed to come to an end, he couldn't help but think about how all these have started. When Nami came to his life, he knew that she was the missing puzzle piece of his already perfect life. Things all went south when his mother came to have a deadly disease, making him use his first wish to cure his bed-riddled mother. Evan soon realized that every wish came with a price. Two days after he wished for the betterment of his mother's health, his little sister died in a car crash.

"Nami, I wish my sister is alive again," Evan kneeled to Nami and clutched her hands.

Nami avoided his eyes, FEAR, there was no mistaking it, she was afraid to say it. "I - I can't."

"What?" Evan bellowed, slamming his hands against the floor, causing his fingers to crack. "What do you mean you cant? I demand that you grant my wish!"

"I'm sorry Evan, but I'm afraid that your sister's life was the price for your first wish." she replied, her voice shaking.

Evan felt his legs lose strength as he fell back to his bed. His eyes widened, his mouth fell agape, he couldn't believe what Nami just said. "Why . . . Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
