Chapter 1

‘Brighton! Come down here this instant. Family meeting!’ I groaned loudly. I don’t get why we have there stupid family meetings. Nobody ever pays attention or tells me anything important anyways. Every time one of my family members are about to blurt out something secret, one of them gets elbowed and they all share these suspicious glances and have a silent conversation. Truthfully, it annoys me so much. If they didn’t do this so often, I wouldn’t be as annoyed, but they have these meetings every week and I never find out anything. I mean, don’t get me wrong, my family loves me, but they like keeping secrets from me.

I hurried my butt down the stairs before my mom started yelling at me again. Oh, yeah. I’m an adopted child. My parents told me at a young age, because they didn’t want me to be mad at them if they told me when I was older.  Anyways, I heard my family using their hushed whispers again, even before I made it down the stairs.

I finally mad it to the living room and plopped myself down on the love seat. I cracked open the book I was in the middle of and waited for their whispers to start so I could drown out their conversations. ‘Brighton!’ I jerked my head up after hearing the sharp call of my name from my mom. I was surprised to say the least. They never included me in these conversations. They were all looking at me expectedly, as if I knew what was going on.

‘Honey, the whole family has something important we need to tell you,’ my mom said with some caution laced in her voice. I looked at all of them suspiciously and wondered what they could tell me that could possibly be surprising. I bet someone 1000 dollars that they are going to tell me that our whole family descended from Werewolves. I already knew this because I saw Ashton, my brother, shift one day and the odd bits of conversation that I caught during these “family meetings.” Since I know what they are probably going to tell me, when they do, I am just going to burst out laughing. Let’s see what happens.

‘Honey.’ My mom starts out. ‘I don’t really know how to tell you this, but our whole family descends from a long line of Werewolves.’ I told you so. ‘Hahahahahahahahaha…’ I burst out laughing hysterically. When I finally calmed down, I looked at all of my family, who were looking at each other, probably trying to figure out if they should send me to an insane asylum.

‘Mom? I’ve known this for a long time.’ I said with a slight smirk.

            ‘B-b-b-but… How?’ She asked incredulous.

‘Well, every time you guys have these meetings, I tend to rest my eyes and hear tidbits of your conversations and… IkindofsawAshtonshiftintohiswolfformoneday.’ I finished in a rush.

‘And I am okay with it.’ They all let out sighs of relief and then they all had another silent conversation with themselves.

‘Well, since you and Ashton are the closest, I think you guys should go upstairs and Ashton can tell you all about us.

‘Okay!’ I bounded up the stairs and waited at the top for my slowpoke of a brother.

‘Hurry up!’ I yelled at him while he still trudged up the stairs.

‘Okay! Don’t get your panties in a twist!’

‘Ashton Michael Evans! No sir! You say sorry this instant!’

I heard a mumbled apology and continued waiting for his butt to finally get up the stairs and tell me all about Werewolves. Off to an adventure, I guess.
