I draw my machete from it's sheath seeing as how They react to sounds such as gunfire.
'There seems to not be as many here...strange...' my thoughts are interrupted by a scream to my right and I sprint towards the cry as fast as I can.

"Someone!! Please help me!!" The voice is that of a girl and as I round a corner, I see her. A girl around my age of 17 with brown-black hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. If it weren't for Them, she would be making the scene not those...things. I lunge and slice one of Them through the neck at the base of it's skull, then slice another two to my right and stab the last one through the temple, effectively bringing it down. I get down on my right knee to be eye level with the girl.

"Are you alright, Miss..?" She sniffles a little and responds.

"Sabrina...Sabrina O'Dea." I nod and reply warmly.

"Yes, Miss O'Dea. My name is Jason Masters." Miss O'Dea smiles and nods.

"It's nice to meet you, Jason." I smile back and stand to help her up. After she stands, I turn and see that our quiet talking didn't attract any more of Them. I motion for her to follow me quietly and she nods. She practically became my shadow...it was disheartening to say the least. The last group I traveled with...did not end the way it should have and sadly for the group...I was the only one out. We traverse a little farther make it to a nearby house I temporarily call 'Home.'

"Jason?" Sabrina questions as we make it into the house.

"Yes, Miss O'Dea?" She giggles and replies.

"Just Sabrina is fine, but where are we?"

"A cleaned out house that will temporarily be my place. If you need anything let me know and I'll do my absolute best, alright?" She smiles and replies happily.

"Alright, Jason." She hugs me quickly to my surprise and I hug back gently not knowing what else to do.

"Thank you..." she says solemnly. I look at her slightly confused.
"For what?"

"For saving me from those things..." I nod in understanding and hug her a little closer.

"It's alright. They can't get you here...I won't let them." Sabrina smiles with tears in her eyes and I smile warmly in return. She puts her head onto my shoulder and sighs a little. I pick her up gently and carry her to the couch in the middle of the living room and she promptly cuddles into my side.

"Sleep well, Sabrina," I say before putting my arm around her. She hugs me a little closer to herself and replies.

"Goodnight, Jason...you too." She is asleep in a few minutes and I finally relax...something I haven't done since I was with my last group...it was nice and a few minutes later I sleep as well.
