Aleia woke with a start. Many things were wrong. She was in the attic, she was somewhat hidden behind boxes and under blankets, and, at 6:30 in the morning, there was a boy outside who sounded like he was screaming for someone at the top of his lungs. It was hard to understand what he was saying due to him sobbing as he screamed.

Aleia sighed and pulled the blankets off of her. She wanted to know what in the world the boy thought he was doing screaming outside at 6:30 on a Saturday of all days! Aleia climbed down the ladder that led out of the attic and made her way to the nearest window. For some reason it was already opened. Aleia thought nothing of it and called to the boy, "What are you doing?"

"Oh I don't know, grooming unicorns? What do you think I'm doing?" The boy yelled back.

"You sound like you're screaming for someone." Replied Aleia in an annoyed way.

"Gland you've finally grasped the situation." Said the boy.

Aleia was about to explode on him for talking to her like that, but instead she said, "You don't have to be so rude. I don't even know your name."

"The name's Carter. What's yours?"

"Aleia. Who were you calling and why?"

"I was calling my friend, Owen. Apparently he's not here. Neither is anybody else."

"What do you mean?" It had been a strange morning for Aleia and her head was spinning.

"Nobody is here. Are your parents here?"

Now that Aleia thought about it, she was the only one in her house. "No." She replied.

"Do you know where they are?" Asked Carter, hoping for a reasonable explanation for everyone's disappearance.

"I don't know. Maybe the grocery store?" Aleia said innocently. "They don't really tell me everywhere they go. Especially when I'm asleep."

"The grocery store. Everybody in the neighborhood went to the grocery store at the same time. That's totally reasonable." Said Carter in a sarcastic tone.

"I was just referring to my parents, and besides, it was just a suggestion." Aleia shot back.

"Whatever. Come down here and we will figure this whole thing out." Replied Carter surprised that Aleia had spoke with such attitude. That was his thing.
