He was sitting alone in his normal place at lunch. He watched her eat with her friends. He watched her dismantle her sandwich, piece by piece. He watched her accede with her friends about how much they don't like the new song I Love It by Icona Pop. He noticed everything about her- how unostentatious and prolific she is, the way she pushes her hair behind her ear, or the way she scratches her eyebrow when she's nervous. He even noticed the way she's been acting lately. She's been late to class with tears in her eyes, and she's been immersed into her thoughts a lot more.
He knows something's wrong but doesn't know what. He's not in love with her or anything, he just feels a connection between the two of them- like they have something in common that's very different from what other people might have in common.
She was sitting in class. They were learning about famous explorers, artisans, philanthropists, and tycoons and how they earned their affluence. She was looking around in the quiet panorama of students and caught Blake Taylor, a prestigious, yet reticent boy, staring at her. He looked at her as if he were in a trance. She noticed that he's been watching her a lot lately and thinks it's kind of irksome. She is also starting to think that his choice in classes weren't arbitrary. After a couple of minutes, she looked over her shoulder once more; he was still staring. A million thoughts were flooding into her head all at once. Does he like me? Does he think I'm weird? Do I smell? I put deodorant on today. Why does he keep staring at me? She couldn't stop thinking about his curious eyes watching her all day. But deep inside, she wanted to stare at him and study him too. She felt as if they have a connection that no one else would have with another person.
When Harley got back home from school, she walked into a house full of sadness and depression. She had this deep feeling inside her that she had seen this before; she was in the same room, with the same people, at the same time. "Mom, Dad, what's wrong?" she asked with desperation in her eyes.
"Your mother and I need to talk to you about something." Harley sat down on the couch, waiting for her parents to say something. "Harley, we think we know what the cause of your terrible dreams slash visions are. We did some research on our family history and we found out that your great, great, great grandfather was in the same situation as you. People said he had visions and could tell the future through his dreams. His daughter could do the same thing too. Your mom and I think it's some supernatural legacy that's been passed down to you!" her dad told her.
She was in shock. She couldn't believe it. It was so much to take in all at once. She basically had "supernatural" powers.
