(Author's Note: I am just going to point out a few things. 1- I don't know French for shit, but I want to learn really bad. 2- I'm just going to post the first chapter until I get a few more done, just to make sure I'll keep it going. That's it for now! Please enjoy!!)

"I don't understand why we had to move here, Mama." I sigh as we get closer and closer to our new New York home.

"Because, Adèle, it will be good for us. Besides, there are better opportunities for both of us here. You want to pursue writing, and I want to get a more sophisticated job. Why not come to New York!" She tries to encourage me, but my opinion doesn't change.

"I still just don't understand. We were perfectly happy in Paris. I could've pursued my writing there."

"I believe it will be good for you, Adèle, okay? Just believe me. Plus, Paris is a danger zone right now, why would I keep my girl there?"

"Everywhere is a danger zone, nowadays. Nowhere is safe, Ma!" I furrow my eyebrows.

"Come on, keep an open mind. You're so pessimistic, learn to be optimistic!" She smiles.

"I-"

"Eh, we're here. So, sh." I roll my eyes as I climb out of the car. "Help with the boxes!"

I grab a couple boxes and my suitcase and head inside. I set it on the kitchen counter and look around. It's not too bad, considering how broke we are. I look out the window and see Mama struggling, so I go out to help her.

"I think this is the last box." She says as she puts it on the counter. "It's not much, but it's all I could manage to bring." I nod.

"I'm going to go check out the outside." I say. She nods and walks over to the coffee maker.

I walk outside and sit down next to a huge tree sitting in our front yard. I lean against it, and pull my writing journal out of my bag. Just as my pen hits the paper, I hear a girl say from behind me, "This tree is beautiful, isn't it?" She has a British accent.

"Yeah, it really is. Very inspirational, as well." I smile as she sits down next to me.

"Ooh, you're French. Did you come from France?"

I nod. "Paris."

"I bet you didn't want to leave."

"Is my misery that obvious?" I giggle, as does she.

"No, no. Paris is just so lovely, I can't imagine anyone wanting to leave." She says. "I was the same way when I left London. I begged my mum to let us stay." I nod. "I'm Chelsea, by the way." She reaches out her hand, and I shake it.

"Adèle." She smiles.

"I love that name. I automatically think of Blue is the Warmes-"

"Colour, I know. I get that a lot." We laugh.

"I love that movie." She looks up at the clear blue sky.

I nod. "It's pretty phenomenal."

"How old are you, by the way?" She looks at me.

"18. I'm finishing up high school here. It's pretty intimidating." I laugh.

"Hey, I'm 18, as well." She smiles. "But if you're going to the high school I go to, it's not so bad. The people I hang around with are pretty cool, I think you'd like them." She smiles, again. "Well, I'd better go help my mum with dinner. I'll talk to you later." She says, as she walks back inside her house.
