Skylar's Point Of View
Staring at the ceiling in my overly pink-colored room the sounds of crashing and screaming echoed throughout the small wooden house. The house I was born and raised in for 17 years was barley holding on. Every step I took I feared the crusty floors would break and drop me to my death. I lived in fear constantly, not from the soon to be demolished house, but from the amount of bills my family could never seem to afford to pay. I lived as an only child with a caring mother and father. They always seemed to find a way to make sure I was happy considering the circumstances we were always in.
At the age of 11 I met a boy who I shared everything with as if he were my own brother. He knew everything about the struggles I endured and sometimes even helped me out financially. I loved him more than anything, but Shortly I would be departed from him. The man I loved would soon no longer be mine, that's if my father won the argument downstairs.
"Skylar!" My fathers horse voice screeched throughout the house.
"Coming." I replied almost instantly.
Don't get me wrong I love my father. He was a sweet and caring man. The only reason he is so tense lately is because the way they used to always come into money last minute was no longer something they could use as a last resort. My parents never told me how it is they made the money and it only made me skeptical even more.
"Skylar, you know your mother and I love you so much right?" My mother grasped my hands as I settled on the couch. My father stood across from me while my mother say right beside me.
"Of course." Were the simple words that rolled right out of my mouth at the non-sensed question. I loved them uncontrollably, they were my family for crying out loud.
"Honey, we have come into some news that we must inform you about. My beautiful Skylar, we are going to lose the house unless we come across some money or some type of values. We have used up everything and with your fathers bad heart and the minimum wage I obtain it's simply not going to do anymore. As a last resort your father and I decided to use all our last favors to call a few men and organize a job in England for you."
"England? Mother that's so far away!" I exclaimed furiously.
"My dear I understand that this is absolutely an obscure request we ask of you but you must learn that we will be roaming the streets begging for meals if we don't get a better income to help support your family. It has been settled that your departure will be right before Christmas on December 21st and I would appreciate if this would go smoothly without any heartaches about you not wanting to leave. My angel please understand we love you endlessly and wouldn't do this if it wasn't a last resort." She continued to break the news as my father stood looking guilty at the fact he would soon be apart from his only daughter.
"What if I don't do a good job mother? What if I'm not good enough and I end up loosing the house for us regardless of what I'm capable of?" I asked.
"Skylar you are a strong and hard working young girl!" My father snapped.
He always yelled at my outbursts of insecurities. He was the man who always put a smile on my face at the end of night dismissing all my constant fears. I was a girl that feared so much and everyone as well as myself knew the dangers of fearing so much. I knew in my mind if I wanted to survive this move to England I had to become fearless. So be it, my fears will no longer haunt my every thought from now on till the reunion with my family after this ordeal.
"Mother, father, today is the 19th of December. I only have one day before I head away?" The realization struck.
"Yes skylar. It's a time for all of us to pray for your safety and strengthen ourselves for the distance we must accustom ourselves to." Her angelic voice soothed over the words.
