Adrienne’s P.O.V:

*Who is she? Does not look like someone from around here…*

*She is so pale… wonder if she is related to the Cullens?*

*Not another one!! Half of the guys here are already drooling after Bella!!*

*Whoa… I would like to befriend her…*

I sighed as I tried to block out the hushed whispers circulating around me that my extra-sensitive ears picked up. But at least I had found something useful in those murmurs- the fact that the vampires were more than one, named the Cullens- and old fashioned name if you ask me.  I had my schedule in hand and was trying to find out the exact location to my first class- English to be exact. But the unusual crowd sure was not making it easy since many of them were actually turning around to get a good look at me.

“Hey, you are the new kid, right?”

I looked up from the schedule to see the blond boy who had made an appreciative comment about my car, smiling cheerfully at me.

“Yes. I am. Can you poss—“

“Hi I’m Mike!” With that, he outstretched his hand for me to take.

“Hello. I am Adrienne.”

I introduced myself, to be polite. Looking down at his outstretched hand, I shook it very reluctantly trying to make as little contact as possible. But he sure was not a fool.

“Whoa, you’re hot!”

He yelped as he dropped my hand. I looked up at him incredulously; not understanding whether he was referring to my higher than normal temperature or if he was referring to my looks.

“N-No! I don’t mean that!! what I mean is, you are burning. But that does not mean you are not good looking…”

I had the pleasure to watch him blush as he tripped over his own words. But I had to distract him from the fact that he had noticed something unusual about me.

“Yes. It is a slight fever, nothing I cannot handle.”

“Uh… right. So, what class do you have right now?”

“English.”

“I do too! C’mon I will show you the way!”

He looked like he had won some kind of a lottery as he began to lead me to the English building, pointing to the cafeteria and the Biology laboratories in the way.

I stiffened as I halted at the threshold of the class. I saw that the class and sensed a vampire sitting in that class- amidst all the humans. I clenched my fist and tried to remain calm as I breathed in and out to control the sudden trembling in my limbs to cease- which was a natural reaction when the enemy gets too close. The slight murmur in the classroom seized as did the teacher’s lecture when his eyes took in my appearance.

“Ah- Miss. Knight, come in.” Mr. Berty called in his lazy voice.

Mike smiled at me one more time and went to sit on his assigned seat. I walked towards his table to get my slip signed but found that I could not sit in his class without giving a brief introduction about myself first.

“Um, hello. My name is Adrienne Knight and I just moved here from Canada. I hope to stay here and have an entertaining experience studying at this school.”

I heard a few chuckles in the class room and a sudden hushed gasp. My eyes pinpointed the person who had given a strange reaction to my introduction. My eyes landed on the vampire sitting at a table with a pretty brunette human but his wide beautiful eyes stared at me with a horrified look and his inhuman face frozen in an expression of shock. I saw the girl look at him worriedly as she gently touched his arm. Our eye contact broke as the teacher said,

“You may have a seat next to Ms.Weber. Ms. Weber, raise your hand.”

A bespectacled brunette raised her hand. Fortunately she was sitting in the far corner of the classroom- as far away from the confused vampire as anyone could get. And I was too grateful to sit by her, sneezing once on the way to my seat.

Queer was the fact that when I sat in my seat, I found my eyes looking for the vampire every now and then as I took careful notes of Mr. Berty’s poetry lecture that morning. I observed him closely as I sat there, narrowing my eyes as I noticed his tousled bronze hair… my heart skipping a beat as the mere color of his hair reminded me of… him.

A sudden heaviness appeared in my chest as I looked back at my notebook, seemingly listening to the teacher admiring the way Shakespeare wrote a certain poem while my heart writhed in sadness as my mind unwillingly took me back—back to the time when I had him…

*Edward…*

I could still feel my beloved’s eyes trained on mine as the gem-like green sparkled with serenity and happiness. I could feel his touch as his lips placed a gentle caring kiss on my forehead… I could still feel his breath tickling my skin as he whispered those tender words of love in my ear…

*I miss you Edward…* I cried silently in my mind, clenching my fist at my sides in a vain effort to stop myself from drowning in my emotions.

As my mind delved into those peaceful memories of the past… I failed to notice a certain vampire’s growing unease by the minute…
