The Move

"Lasmin, did you pack the dog's bowl?", said Lasmin's mom, Sara

"Yes mom, but can you tell me why we have to move?", said Lasmin

"Because I got a job offer, and I don't want to discuss anymore. Just go finish, we're leaving in a few", said Sara.

Lasmin went to take a last look at her house, where she grew up. She knew that as soon as she left out the door she would be saying goodbye to her life. Her friends, school, and even her dead fish in the backyard. She knew she was going to miss every little part.

While Lasmin was in the car, she looked out the window. Whispering goodbye at all the places where she had her memories. The ice cream shop, where she had her first date. The Library where she had her first job.

Lasmin fell asleep for the rest of the way.

When they got to Colorado, Lasmin started to take her stuff out of the car. While she took out her stuff she found a old book in the back. She was curios on what it was, so she went to ask her mom.

"Hey mom, what is this book?"

"Lasmin, can't you see I'm busy?", Sara was doing some paperwork on the computer.

"But mo-" she was interrupted by her mom

"Lasmin, can we please talk later"

Lasmin was mad that her mother wasn't paying attention to her. She wasn't surprised though, she was always like that.

Lasmin went up to her new room. She started unpacking and put the book on her night stand to read it later. While she unpacked her stuff she noticed that she forgot her box with T-shirts.

She went back to the car to get the box. While she was there she noticed that her neighbor was looking at her from his garage.

Lasmin then shouted, "Hey I'm Lasmin, I'm new to town."

As soon as the boy heard her, he went inside and closed the garage.

"Well that was weird, talk about good neighbors", Lasmin whispered to herself.

It was late at night and Lasmin was laying on her bed thinking. She was nervous to start school tomorrow. What if she didn't get any friends? What if people bullied her? What if the school lunch was disgusting? What if her teachers ha-. She stopped herself from thinking the worse. She just was going to say to herself that it would be a good day, the best day.

She was getting ready for bed, but she remembered the book. She went to get it and then went to lay back on her bed. She opened the book, but it wasn't written in English. She had never seen this type of language before, and she knew her mother only knew English. Lasmin was the only one in her small family that knew more than English. She also knew Spanish.

That night she couldn't sleep. The thought of her new school, but mostly the book. There was something odd about the book. Not just the language, but she felt like that book was there for her.
