Old Legends

Book 3

Prologue

“The Old Legends state that five children, born from either a god or a goddess, will appear into the five chosen villages every 1,000 years. Once the children are born, a competition for each village is formed. The competition is to keep their Holy Child alive while killing off the remaining four. Once only one holy child is alive that village will gain the power to rule over all the other rebel lands.

“Eighteen years ago the thousand year mark came and on the night of the crescent moon five children appeared  into The Moon Village, Pixie Grove, The Unknown Lands, The Prairie Lands, and Lake Land. Sela, the daughter of the Goddess Luna and the Moon landed in a patch of Moon Shade, covered in white silk. Dahlia, the daughter of the Goddess Antheia and the Land, was found at the base of a tall willow in a flower patch, covered in a large black Dahlia. Priscilla, daughter of the Goddess Astraia and the sun was found upon the top of a sunflower wrapped in the petals of the flower. Nico, son of the Goddess Bastet, brought into the village by a lion covered in the fur of a Puma. Kai, son of the Goddess Thalassa and the sea, brought to the town upon a white-capped wave, covered in nothing, but the water that brought him.

“And so the villages began the competition,”

“Lady Sela of The Moon Village, daughter of Luna the goddess and the moon, was challenged to a one on one fight to the death by Lord Nico, son of the Goddess Bastet. To everyone’s shock Lady Sela defeated the Prairie Land’s Holy Child.”

“Now Sela walks on her journey with a man that loves her and she him. Lady Sela now, not only has the three other holy villages and their allies’ against her, but she also has the royal city and its army.”

Chapter 1- Kai

“Master Kaelin!” I say repetitively as I run after my trainer and master.

A man in a teal colored robe carrying a large bag turns toward me as I run to him. “Well shinka young Kinas.” He says to me, mixing some of our ancestors tongue into the shared language of the land. “What brings you aka?”

I stand there and think of a way I can mix the little of our ancestor’s language into my reply. “I wanted to know if I could fela? It has been weeks since we last went into the mountains to train some.”

“The reason we haven’t gone up in the mountains is because the other holy children have already started killing one another off. I have got to keep you and your people safe. We know Sela has an unknown strength that no one knew about and was able to kill Nico. Their village is far too close for us to take any risks at all.” Kaelin replies. “It is only for your safety.”

“I can take her on!” I reply. “I have been training since I was five. So what if she has some unknown strength. Nico just didn’t know about it so he was caught off guard! I know she is strong so I will be able to take her on.”

“That is not the only thing I fear. You know Theo from the Royal city?”

“Of course, he is the only person that knows all about every villages fighting styles and history. What about him?” I ask confused by the sudden change of subject.

“Well he seems to have fallen for Sela and is now helping her train by telling her our fighting styles. I’m sure you can take her without this knowledge, but with it I have very little faith is us. Especially since we have no idea how she fights, herself.”

“Well why don’t we send a spy? Find out how she fights.” I cannot believe she managed to get Theo on her side. Out of anyone in this land he would be the best to have as an ally! If I could get him on my side, then I can easily get the power for my village.
