I once knew a guy who served war with me, he was a brave soldier, did what ever it took for his country, even got a Purple Heart, Here's his story...
It was the first battle of the war, we had lost 87 of our 200 soldiers, this brave boy, only 21 was unlike no other, he was not afraid to stand in the open. He gunned anything that moved past enemy lines, but even though he was a sitting duck, he was fast, not afraid to die. He always had a smile, always inspired. He saved us from many horrors, and we finally made it home to base, with and RTB call. When we got to base, I asked him, "What keeps your smile on your face, when your in war with people dying around you?" He answered a simple two words, "My girlfriend." He loaded his empty magazines and returned to the Military Hummer, he manned the mounted .50 Cal. on the roof.
As we pulled up to the call, it was quiet, too quiet, but we trusted this kid with our lives. He must of saw something with the corner of his eye, because he spun around and shot like he was going to plan on taking out an army, but surly enough, he pinned 3 Russians in a building. The next second, we were ambushed, this brave kid, Mason, was all oven these Russians, gunning them left and right, again with a smile. He left the Hummer and began to flank off, he entered the building killing them from behind, but when he was forced out, we had to call air support and pick up. He gave us the time to call in both, he fought hard to keep us alive, the airstrike came in and took most of the enemies down, pick up was only 5 clicks away.
When the pick up arrived, everyone boarded, just as Mason was climbing up and in, he was shot from behind, he fell. As he rose to his feet, he demanded a LMG, he took it from his fellow allie and turned around and found cover, "Go!!!" he ordered, but his team refused, he got up in the line of fire and handed his helmet cam to his Captain, "Give this to Lina, tell her I love her, tell her i'll see her in the afterlife." he let go of the grip on his cam, and fled to the line of fire, he took out his M1911 and fired away, retreated to cover and said, "What are you waiting for! Go!", as much as the pilot wanted to stay, we had to leave him behind, he made the order. As we rose in the sky, Mason turned and saluted, then... he was shot, down and crawling, we heard his radio, "I'm Free, I love you Lina" then it all went static. What happened is he took down the enemies with his supply of C4.
When we returned to base when the war was over, we found Lina waiting for Mason, we gave her his Cam, then walked away, she broke down crying, but nothing we could do would help.
The cam was all of Mason's videos to Lina, saying he'd return and they'd have a great life, but the last clip was taken during the end of the ambush, when Mason was first shot, he said he's going to take them down with him, and he did, and it ended when the Captain said he was sorry for her loss.
A simple loving soldier save a lot of lives, yet risking his own, that's a real soldier.
