Emily's eyes blurred as they looked out the window at all the cars passing by. Watching the rain drops slide down the outside, free from the world and soon to be gone, into nothing. Her head spun as she began to imagine the new faces she was gonna approach, and the whispers of her past as she walked around the new town. She gulped a sip of water and felt it go down her throat; like knifes cutting her insides. Emily shut her eyes and tried to block out all her inner thoughts taking over her mind. Then the car stopped. She had arrived.
"Okay Emily, it's your big moment! Make an impression on the bidding family's so they pay more for you!" The lady opened her door and placed one foot out. "Oh I almost forgot, good luck" she gave Emily a dazzling smile and began to walk around and unlock Emily's door. She was as pale as ever and you could see her shaking from a mile away. Her blonde lion hair made her look fierce alone with her cold blue eyes. She wore a daisy dress with knee high socks and black converse trainers. You could tell Emily was out of her comfort zone. Being auctioned off to bidding families was always going to be intimidating but Emily never thought it would be this tough. Having no parents and older siblings unable to cope with having a teenager meant she was given away. The care homes were too busy so the only hope was to give her away to buyers. The lady shut the car door behind her and led her into the arena.
Emily walked in and glanced at her surroundings, pouncing onto all the details around her. "I'm scared, what do I say, what do I do?" Her quiet voice spoke and it quivered every word.
"Okay here's your script, look brave, stand onstage and read this." Emily had never spoken to this lady before but was thankful for how nice she had been.
"Thank you, I'm so hungry can I eat before I go in?" Emily hadn't been looked after properly for weeks and so the lady took her over to the vending machine and grabbed some empty change from her pockets.
"What do you want?"
"Um A4 please" she pinned in the numbers and out dropped a bag of salt and vinegar crisps. Emily grabbed then and ate the bag quickly, before being taken back stage. She looked around at all other girls, dressed in fancy dresses, confident, pretty and there she felt scared, ugly and unwanted. Emily only ever had 1 or 2 friends in her previous school but she was taken from Leeds after her parents died in a car accident.
"We're next" the lady said as she looked down at Emily. She straightened her dress and plumped her hair, so she looked fierce. "Go get them my lion girl" Emily had never thought of being a lion; brave and confident but being a Leo means she has an inner drive. Emily smiled then was pushed through the curtains and out into the bright lights.Everything went silent for a minute as men in different booths all wrote down notes on their paper. Then a women with her husband sitting on the lowest desk shouted through their microphone.
"We want her!" Everybody then muttered as a bidder called out.
"£500, going for £500"
"Here"
"£1000 going for £1000"
"Here"
"£1500 going for £1500, going once... going twice... Sold to the couple in the lower booths " then Emily was led down the steps of the stage and round to the booths side door. She took a deep breath in and turned the handle. "So my new life begins" she whispered and she opened the door and walked inside.
