She'd forgotten how quiet the countryside could be. The peacefulness of the woods rushed in through the open windows and the cracked door; filling the home with serenity and calmness. Eve had woken up a few hours ago, and after unpacking she had explored the crooks and crannies of the house. Now she sat on the floral-print couch, with a cup of coffee, looking through some old boxes that had been hidden away in the small attic the cabin harbored. Black and grey pictures, a necklace, some letters and postcards filled the box to its brim. The pictures were of a couple standing in front of the cabin with their arms laced around each other. The love in their eyes was visible even in the ancient picture; Evangeline could only hope to find something like what the couple in the picture had.
The appreciation for the couple's love soon turned in envy. Her last encounter with love had left her heart broken; a loneliness that had begun in her heart had slowly spread outwards leaving an unusual strange girl. Eve had now been single for three years and the picture of the couple didn't soothe the wound she had, instead it opened -ripping it apart- and poured gallons of salt on it. The anger and the sadness crashed into her like a tsunami wave and left her only with memories of a boy she had given it all to.
The cup fell to the floor and the coffee stained the colorful rug. The picture slipped through her hands and landed with a thud; she pulled herself from the bitterness of the memories. Eve's coat flew in the air as she slipped into it. She grabbed her phone and began making her way to the creek.
